In.com to Launch Education Platform, MySchool

In.com has launched an educational portal called MySchool that currently hosts educational content from around the web.

MySchool is a joint venture between Web18 and GECOM International, a education management firm that specializes in planning, setting up and managing educational institutions.

Though the current service is a content play, In.com is in talks with Ryan International school to power their education related infrastructure – right from setting up the parent-school interaction system (e.g. alerts) to students checking their details online etc.

The most important catch here is that each student will get a in.com id (and they will use it too!, unlike several others who registered and didn’t use).

So what does In.com stands for?

Music, Content, Search, Shopping, Games, Hotels..and everything possible online? Case of unclear product positioning?

What’s your opinion on In.com’s strength? Most importantly, do you use their email service (which was advertised heavily)?

Its a mistake. Getting involved with Indian Schools on a day to day basis is a mistake. And I speak from personal experience.

Are they aware of http://www.planetvidya.com/ by Educomp? It has been around for 5 years I think. It was almost a dead project till a couple of years ago.

    4. Kasi says:

@Rohit. I agree with you completely … i have also burnt my fingers doing something for the school…went to schools with
      i) Student profiling
      ii) Traits management
      iii) Answering ability (various catagories)
      iv) Teacher allocation
      v) Net based attendance viewing
      vi) Automated question generation
      vii) financial module…etc.,etc.,

finally what they wanted was finance management module for Rs 5000/ closed the entire project after burning 10-12 lacs. 5-years back…. hope the scenario has not changed much.

I met a founder of a very old education tech company in India. Guess what he said? “I would have closed this business had I not already burned 10 years”. Schools are corrupt, so many of them run by property dealers, politicians and their daughter-in-laws who suddenly become “Principal”. To them everything is the same – a means of extracting money from parents.
