NyooTV – Watch TV Serials/Bollywood Movies for Free [Aggregator for the Entertainment Content]

NyooTV is an entertainment startup that has aggregated content from content providers enabling users to watch Bollywood/Tollywood movies, TV shows, sporting events etc.

The company, started by ex-Comcast employee is also building customized mobile applications to provide optimum user experience even with low bandwidths.nyootv

The premium legal content on NyooTV is available in the following categories:

  • Movies: NyooTV has teamed up with Content Providers to deliver movie trailers, clips and full movies in high quality. Spread over a variety of genres, movie lovers can watch Bollywood, Mollywood and Tollywood films free of cost.
  • TV Shows: Partnerships with Channel Providers help NyooTV provide users with access to TV shows, especially those which are not aired anymore.
  • Sports: Users will be able to watch sporting events live or on demand. Matches which were played earlier, and are no longer available anywhere can be viewed.
  • Entertainment: Award Ceremonies, Live Performances, Music Albums, Fashion shows and Celebrity Interviews can be watched on NyooTV.

The site is neatly structured and since monetization happens thru in-video advertising, you won’t spot a lot of banner ads that are usually encountered in such sites. Partners include Rajshri tv, Star, Hungama, Tubaah, BigAdda, BigFlix, Daily motion, Eros and ofcourse, the free content from Youtube.

The company’s Board of Directors consists of Peter F. Gardner, an investment banker and a seed investor in Last.FM, and Kartik Hosanagar, a professor of Information and Operations Management at The Wharton School and is also the co-founder of Yodle Inc.

As of now, there are movies like Andaz Apna Apna, Tarzan, Blue, LSD, Rann etc that are available for free viewing – the business model, I presume will be a mix of video advertising to licensing its VOD (Video On Demand) service to corporate like hotels (using IPTV).

NyooTV boasts of adaptive streaming technology that adjusts the quality of a video (bitrate) delivered to the video player based on network bandwidth to ensure stutter less viewing experience. Though the big challenge for them is the lack of control on quality of streaming from their content partners – I tried watching Andaz Apna Apna and had limited success with the streaming.

Overall, this is a good attempt at video based content aggregation and only time will tell if video monetization becomes a big enough market, especially for the shelved content.

Hasn’t Shemaroo already uploaded these videos to youtube for free viewing. I guess the innovation is in the TV partnership and creation of the unified platform.
Let’s see if that is enough for indian audiences.

    3. Pradeep says:

Nice initiative.. even though such contents trailor etc is available at several website.. but something dedicated is always nice.

I guess content is the key for success, I would look up to Hulu which is going good because of its content and netflix’s (instant view)
They do need to build good content and cheapest (ad based) ways to monetize the content

    6. Rajat says:

They are blatantly giving the links of tv serials etc from youtube which i think is against copyright issues….they should take care of that otherwise they might get into deep trouble (think about guruji.com) ….
Check out this site folks http://www.yawtv.com, launched as a web toy but people use it for fun and music…search for ‘kishore kumar’ or ‘rahat fateh ali khan songs’ and you will know what its all about, its ad free and built on youtube….

        Hi Rajat,

On NyooTV the links from YouTube and many more websites are embedded on the website for a complete user experience. The website is an aggregator of video content. Also, YouTube receives a majority traffic from players embedded in social sites such and Facebook apart from Google sites (Gmail, Orkut, etc.) :P

Along with this, NyooTV offers premium & legal television and movie content from various sources mentioned int he article such as rajshri, shemaroo, etc. All videos from YouTube and other websites lead to the respective platform are are in sync with their usage guidelines. Plus embedding can never be illegal because the content publisher still has its ads play and makes the same amount of money.

        Cheers

          Hi Tanya,
Thanks for your reply.Actually the content might be adhering to the Terms of Use of youtube or video hosting site but i was talking about the original video content as such, i meant to say for e.g if somebody puts a pirated copy of a music video on youtube and if you display it on your website, it might adhere to youtube TOS but not to the original content creator i.e the music video producer.Maybe you are figuring this out and only putting valid content from those sites.

          Rajat

            Hi Rajat,

That’s a valid point. Nyoo TV ensures that all content embedded on the website is legal and through verified sources on You Tube.

Thank you for your views on the issue and glad to know that there are users who are concerned about pirated content on the internet.

Look forward to more conversations with you!

            Cheers
