Telecom tariff war is in and as we mentioned earlier, Uninor has launched it’s GSM service in India (they are the 8th GSM operator in India).
The launch, as the company claims is the largest single day launch in telecom history, as the service is now available to 550 million people, i.e. 7 circles – Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Bihar & Uttar Pradesh (East & West).
Uninor Pricing
Uninor will be retailed at 210,000 point of sale via ~1000 distributors – the company offers two plans, ‘talklonger@29p/min’ and ‘Callmore@29p/min’.
While other telcos are bringing down the pricing from 1 paisa/sec to 0.5 paisa/sec, Uninor raises the bar with 29p/min (which is still lower than 0.5p/sec).
TalkMore offers local calls @29 p/minute (with setup charge of 39p), while Callmore offers calls at 29 paise and STD at 49 paise per minute, with a daily rental of Rs2.
DoCoMo and now Uninor – lets hope we don’t compromise on the network quality.
Predatory Pricing
New telecom operators, DoCoMo and Uninor are changing the rules of the game and Bharti CEO has even asked TRAI to look into the predatory pricing strategy by new telecom operators to woo customers.
“Trai should look at predatory pricing… The current tariff structure is lower than the cost structure of operators. Clearly, tariffs have to be sustainable in the long run.
And as one telcom puts it aptly:
When Trai wanted all telcos to provide the per-second billing option, large operators opposed the move and sought that tariffs be left to market forces. But, when market forces take over, they want the regulator to step in. Any reduction in tariffs benefits customers and therefore their stance is anti-consumer” – ET
Will Indian telecom incumbents lose out to new players, owing to their resistance to change? Remember the days when even incoming was charged and incumbents like Bharti sucked the blood out of customers until Reliance came in and changed the game?

all said and done, well the fact is tariff war has started in india and thanks to new players like uninor , mts, tata docomo for doing this.
the tariff plans are ensuring that we end user gets the best.
uninor being latest is being aggressive in its marketing strategy and it is also said that their plans are coming out to be cheapest. Cheaper than one second pulse also.
The fact is that an average call we make is around 100 seconds and uninor comes out to be 97 paisa max where as others are minimum 100 paise i.e rs 1.
so the more we talk cheaper it gets on uninor
also the card is for 49 rs with talktime of rs5 so the effective rate becomes 44
and finally not to forget the cool offers they have on recharge, the user gets 100% if the transaction is done via ATM/ Kiosk / Internet Banking.

I just love the uninor talkmore@29p plan, as i talk alot on my phone and in the long run i save money when i use uninor compared to other telecom providers. i wish uninor all the best and hope they come out with even better tariff plans in the future.

realy strange I got my uninor connection activated within minutes, uninor customer service is very good and efficient, incase you are facing issues why dont contact their customer service (http://www.uninor.in/pages/ContactUs.aspx) or send your details to care@uninor.in and by the way from which city you are and what is the number.
uninor is very economical and as compared to others uninor customer service is very effective. uninor 29 paisa is economical when compared to one paise per second, i am saving lots of money by switching over to uninor.

P2P SMS costs seems to decline, but A2P costs seems to increase due to high termination charges – especially by AirTel.
If this prices comes down – there will be a huge innovation could happen around SMS enabled Applications.

Its really getting competitive – just a month ago DOCOMO disrupted the market with 1 paisa billing, TTL with unlimited talk for a fixed cost.
This are still not settled – but this is an other disruption.
It seems like in the future – everyone end up offering FREE on VOICE n SMS TEXT – they will have to figure out a different VAS models to increase there ARPU.
Not sure what’s in store with 3G.

DOCOMO 1 sec billing is a psycological game. Very few calls will last less than 30 seconds. For 60 second they charge 60paise. Uninor charges 29paise, after factoring in the set-up charge or daily decrement (Based on the plan) Uninor is still the best.

Established players might have been guilty of trying to hold the price when trai asked them to cut down. But trai has/had no reasons to heed or complain, they can take decisions if they find it sensible. It is only natural for every entity to try to protect their interests.
A predatory pricing is not good for anyone, including the consumers in the long run. It is no secret that gains to consumers is a short one. Prices go higher than normal in case of consolidation after predatory phase is over. The price wars may also eventually result in poor unreliable service and operators getting desperate to attract subscriber even if they need to tell a bunch of lies to acquire customers. Like the Rs.99 air tickets.

This is a dangerous pricing strategy which does not make any economic sense. In the longer term, most of these operators will go bankrupt and the larger ones which survive may go back to usual pricing!

i don’t think it’s too late for Uninor, as Uninor has launched good schemes like talkmore@29p and callmore@29p. Infact, according to me, Uninor is definitely raising the bar.
I think if UNINOR want to sustain in the Indian communication business then it should work on per call plan rather then per /Sec then only you beat the recent competitor DOCOMO.

Dear sir i have tata indicom, docomo, idea, airtel, vodafone, aircel, reliance gsm sim but i use reliance gsm because its plans r to cool n in recharge of 38 cal rate is 1/3 min means 33.33p/min std,in roaming also, in recharge of rs 25 i get 500 sms/day it means 15000/month n secondly i use aircel because in recharge of rs 98 i get unlimited internet/month. This both sim i use but reliance sim is much better.. But u don’t worry sir i will buy uninor sim also

i got an sms in which the http://www.uninor.in web site address was given, the site address has to be forwarded to 25 persons so that my mobile balance will be credited with Rs,.150/-, thou i forwarded the message to 25 number, my account was not credited, but deducted.
it means by the name of uninor, all other sim cards are taking advantage, please do not encourage such type of messages.

i have a uninor connection and would have to agree with Ramesh on this. uninor does have the most economical tariff plans compared to others! and now they even have 12 lakh subscribers using their connection to prove it.
