India’s Most Trusted Brands

ET’s Brand Equity has released the list of India’s most trusted brands and Nokia tops the list followed by Colgate, Lux Lifebuoy and Dettol.

What’s interesting is that Reliance mobile is more trusted than Airtel, Pepsi more than Coke and Hero Honda beats Bajaj.

A lot of this has been achieved through consistent product messaging (read How Smart Companies Understand User Needs (and Exploit them))

What’s your take on this list? If you notice, most of these products are utilitarian in nature, but carving a brand positioning out of them is the challenge and is a lesson for all of us.

Interesting to note that though Airel / Reliance Mobile is on the top 25 brands and even TATA Indicom makes it to the top 50…there is no Vodafone, not even in the top 50. I wonder why especially after their super hit campaigns like with the Pug and more recently the much hoho about the zozozo’s

@ghosh: I guess this is because Vodafone is not an Indian Brand.

    4. Sumit says:

Clarification: Vodafone is new to India and has not joined the Indian Brand Wagon.

@sumit: I didn’t get the last part. Vodafone has not joined the Indian Brand Wagon. Would please clarify

@ghosh: I meant that Vodafone has not been able to touch the Indian masses like the other brands in the league(Airtel, Reliance). Vodafone acquired Hutch and its customers in September last year. I associate brand with trust and I think that Vodafone will take time to establish like a brand in India. 6 months back only many people did not know that they were using Vodafone and not Hutch even after 4 months of its acquisition.

      My 2 paisa.
