Silencer for Generators – The much needed Innovation arrives

Sometimes, the best innovations are the ones which are just so damn obvious that you would end up saying “why did it took so much time to get this out!”

Virendra Kumar Sinha, a resident of Belbanwa colony of the Motihari town (Bihar), has invented the silencer-cum-exhaust filter for the generator that apart from working as a silencer, also reduces the level of carbon dioxide (and monoxide) by 60-70%.

Sinha said his product was put under test in three stages in the laboratory of Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Ranchi, where it was proved that the product was capable of reducing about 60 to 70 per cent of the harmful carbon-dioxide and carbon-monoxide gases emitted by generators.

After the lab test at BIT, Sinha got his product patented by Indian Patent Office, Kolkata. [source]

Interestingly, the idea struck when Virendra’s neighbors started complaining about his generator – just that it took him 6 years to find the ’silent’ solution!

    A nitpicker arrives.

He proclaims that kilowatt generators are already placed near mobile towers and major commercial establishments and you would barely hear a sound when they are working.

He also doubts that a “passive” silencer/filter can capture carbon dioxide and stores it in a compact form. He cites the second law of thermodynamics. He therefore seeks more details. He also asks of you to critically question your sources.

He also wishes you a nice day.
