Still, I think Rails is junk. From what I’ve heard, Grails (which is in Groovy which runs on JVM) is better. It’s not just a simple rewrite but taking the same concept as rails done in a much better way

Ruby on Rails expedite the development process but lacks scaling problems albeit 37siglans.com has proved what can be achieved using ROR. You cant compare Java vs ROR. ROR is a Framework on which Apps are developed while Java is not a Framework. In short, Java is like learning Alphabets [A to Z] while ROR is like Learning English using Standard English grammar. That is what i thought. Java is Faster in Performance then Ruby. More here
There are things you cant compare. ROR is brilliant in its own domain and so is JAVA.
You still cant imagine your enterprise applications and desktops apps to be in ROR.. but what ROR offers is brilliant for the web of course with few scalability issues. There are ‘n’ number of JAVA developers who will swear by it come what may.. But as Amunk says Grails is a +ve step from Java. Moreover they have released the JAVA code to public!
A better comparison would be AJAX vs Flex!
