Firefox Download Day and a look at FF Loving Countries

FireFox 3 will be released tomorrow (i.e June 17th) and the FF team is gearing up for making an entry in “Guinness Book of World Records” for the most downloaded software in 24 hours.

As we approach the D-day (or F-day?), lets look at numbers pledged from different countries:

  • US: 221, 036,Canada : 37,084,Russia: 36,375,China: 19,889
  • Japan: 52, 397,India: 26, 196,Poland: 90,708,Germany: 56, 103
  • UK: 54, 179,Australia: 23,524,Brazil: 87,348

firefox pledge

Is it fair to judge a nation’s geekiness by looking at these numbers? What do you think?

What’er happens to FF’s entry in Guinness Book of world records, FF3 faces stiff competition from Opera 9.5.

India is very far compared to other countries.

Umm.. not geekiness but (internet accessibility X geekiness) definitely :-)

    3. Adam says:

opera doesn’t stand a chance, its too unstable and unknown.

    4. Robert says:

how about you try it before commenting? doubt you’ll ever run IE or FF again

    5. Adam says:

i have used it, for three months, they were the worst months i’ve had on the net. I don’t use IE, Opera, or Safari any more. Firefox has been the overall best experience i have had. Also while i was using it at school i asked some of the biggest tech nerds at the school if they used it, they never heard of it. Opera crashed constantly and almost none of the small sites i go to worked on it, the themes constantly caused errors, and i found after i dropped it that I can do nearly all the stuff opera does in Firefox. I have the speed dial (works the same), I have nicer, more professional looking themes that don’t screw up the browser, and i have my favorites from all my other browsers without having to hit a button. I absolutely hated it and i don’t think i will try it again for quite some time.

    6. Ashish says:

What I really like about Opera is the speed – FF2 has been performing pathetically (hangs for no reason). SO far, I havent used FF3 RC versions since FireBug is not yet supported..but hope to get the FB support for FF3.

Anxiously waiting for the new release !

Right now i decided for my blog i would compare opera 9.5 to Firefox 3 and right now (even though i can’t get my hands on it till tomorrow) is winning. I see really no imporvment from the last version where as in my beta 5 version on Ubuntu of Firefox, I can see alot of change. Also it runs slower than FF2 but that is a hardware problem, though i do have to say that the opera basic theme is very pleasing to the eyes.

Though it only starts faster than fire fox, everything else on it seems to be the same, except that yahoo doesn’t work right, and there is no stumble button so for a stumbler like me, it’s pretty much useless.

    9. Jeff says:

just that FF3 still doesnt seem to support firebug! many of the addons dont work in the RC release.
Opera 9.5 is very stable and lot more useful (though the much hyped firebug alternative)isn’t an icebreaker!!!!

    10. Adam says:

All the addons i use work better in FF3, last night opera 9.5 crashed on me 5 times, fire fox has only crashed 9 times since i started using it. apple.com nor yahoo.com work right on Opera. I just tried launching it at at the same time as firefox, it didn’t even launch. I also find it’s not that much faster than 9.2 or firefox.I’m happy to say come one today (eastern time 10 pacific) I will become a proud user of firefox 3. And wtf is firebug and why would i need it, firefox runs just fine.

Has any one noticed that default search in new tab in opera is Yahoo and may be thats why Google sites [Like Google Docs] do not support opera… :( (

I notice that Google mail and other AJAX based Google sites freeze Opera… is it a business tactic…
