IndiaTimes has launched itimes, a social network with a big difference – you can make friends, chat with them, tag them, post videos and amazingly, you can email them too (shit! a feature that was missing in all other social networks!)
Leaving the sarcasm aside, the socionet also has a gaming zone, blogs (how cool!)and a classified section [via cs].
My 2 cents worth of question to Indiatimes – Who needs another social network? To do what? upload pics? Videos?
Well, Indians Indians flock to Social Networks for a purpose, which is primarily staying in touch with their friends and a me-too solution will probably land in the middle of nowhere!
Well, I didn’t care to create a profile, but I am pretty sure that socionets like these will easily get a million users in few months (have money, will run contests), but no serious user engagement.
If you happen to create a profile and want to share your feedback, please leave your notes in the comment section.

The site UI sucks. They don’t even show a preview of how the screens would look like. Pretty sad state.
Any idea if Human Factors had done the User Interface? HFI has IndiaTimes in their case studies (www.humanfactors.com/about/Indiatimes.asp). If yes, shame on them too.

I tried to get an invite to signup but everytime I tried to register, it threw up an asp.net error about a potentially dangerous string
I read somewhere they had been making it for 1.5 years .. is that true?
No!

I like the logo. Iwont say its a great site or that its reallu different from others but I wont even detest it as well. Being an addict to net and everything new on it, I created my profile here as well. The surprise was they have a different login Id than that of Indiatimes.com! Anywz one feature I liked about it was uploading many pictures at once. Its like.. the site scans the system for pictures and then given an option to upload as many pics one wants from the root folder. I was quite impressed with the speed.. Apart from that there are blogs, marketing something something..pata ni! kuch hai to but how useful, either God knows or Indiatimes people do. Overall rating in this “Look-there-is-a-new-social-networking-site-here” days would be 4.5 out of 10.
*yaaawwwnn*
oh well itimes is a relatively new site and is having its share of ups and downs…which i guess is natural…i mean most of us in india got to know about orkut and facebook when it was like a couple of years old here!guess we sould give it some more time to evolve and see where its heading towards before giving our final verdict on it.
psst…i personally find the idea of blogging, gaming, email and social networking in one platform really hassle free.orkut is way too cluttered now, facebook very uni dimensional and myspace, bigadda & ibibo..well lets not even get there!!
Hey this site is cool..might be u guys who complained tried it when it was in developing stages.. but now i knw and have joined it… its wrking grt..i heard it will include celebs..and it has a cool email….
I wrote about a few of the players in the Indian Social networking space just a few hours ago. I totally share your opinion of just too many social networks being out there. Do let me know on what you think of this.
