MyDuniya shuts down

SMS service startup, MyDuniya (review) has decided to shut down the service.

In a letter (sent a month back) to it’s users, the startup mentioned current business condition as the sole reason behind the decision to shut down.

I am writing this note to inform of you of the termination of SMS services by MyDuniya due to poor business conditions that has threatened our viability.

Our servers will be brought down by October 17, 2008, Friday 5 p.m. We request you to delete or download data from your account. Please note that data retrieval beyond the above date will not be possible. We also request you to inform your customers suitably ahead of this time as appropriate.
We have identified alternate vendors who will be able to offer attractive prices to continue the core service of push messaging under their framework.
Please let ..<snipped>..know if you need any help in this transition.
We once again thank you for the supporting us and deeply regret the inconvenience.

What, do you think went wrong? Do share.

      hmm…negativity!
not sure why you gotta do this?

    2. djeet says:

@Kapil: i think it’s not about negativity……it’s only and only about trying and failing.

@Ashish:i have seen quite a few start ups go down in recent times .WHY NOT convince these people to talk about their low and high points during this endeavour.I know failure in India is still considered a social shame. But these are important “gems” in start up “ecosystem” and you (&your blog) can become a very important vehicle in acheiving that purpose.

My best guess, having been an “failed” entrepreneur myself, is that “cash” would have run out and the customers may not have come in at the required pace. The probability of this is the highest in this financial environment.

No fault of anyone around. Maybe they should have opened up a community service and asked for donations/contribution.

If you have their contacts, maybe I can work with them on something.

    4. Sameer says:

Well, maybe its time to celebrate the failures as well – these are the ones who dared! Ashish, I didn’t see any -vity etc – plain old reporting.

Perhaps there’s a case for a “triedpool” rather than a “deadpool” to emphasize this thought that I know you believe in yourself.

    5. It would be really good for the other entrepreneurs and startups if pluggd.in can arrange an interview with the founders and get an insight as what really went wrong. There was an early post which shared the experience of an entrepreneur stressing the need for focus.

      No worries Team Myduniya.

Things do not go wrong. Situations do.

All the best for your next attempt.

    8. As far as I know these guys are now moved onto a new startup , they have just a launched a new service which was recently featured in pluggd.in :) .
