The disruption in the SEA-ME-WE 4 undersea submarine cable system, which links South East Asia and Europe, is likely to affect the high-speed Internet services in the country.
The submarine cable system suffered a fault near Italy and maintenance will be carried out for the next four days, which may cause some disruption in services.
The South East Asia–Middle East–Western Europe 4 (SEA-ME-WE 4) submarine communications cable system is a consortium of 16 companies (including Airtel and Tata Communications) and carries telecommunications between Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan,United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Egypt, Italy, Tunisia, Algeria and France.
Similar incident happened in January of 2008 : India loses ~50% of Internet bandwidth for the next 10 days.

When the repair work had not even started airtel reduced my night speed in the Turbo 1299 plan from 1Mbps to 512Kbps on 21st April 2010 and blamed it on undersea cable.
Airtel is always finding new ways to cheat there broadband subscribers. If the repair work goes on for the next 15 days who will compensate for that? will Airtel offer us a waiver in our bill for the loss of bandwidth?

When will it be fixed.
Ive got the 5 gb airtel intenet plan and the speed has only ever gone over 150 kb/s once. I play on xbox live but connection is always 4 out of 8 where as everyone else’s is either 7/8 or 8/8. please could you tell us when the repair is going to be complete. And Airtel is the best at scamming its customers.
That is not a good news.
