Savita Bhabhi founder comes out in the open, shuts down Save Savita Campaign

The first victim of Internet censorship in India – Savita Bhabhi founder has decided to shutdown the ‘Save Savita Campaign’.

Extracts from the site

“Dear Savita Bhabhi supporters. It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce that I will be shutting down the Save Savita campaign and everything associated with it. Unfortunately, due to personal and family issues arising from my going public last week, I am forced to take this decision.

I will be taking down all links and posts subsequent to releasing this statement. I apologize for any inconvenience caused to bloggers/tweeters that are linking to the content on the Save Savita website.”

Savita Bhabhi Banned

Founder, (goes by the name deshmukh) came out in the open last week and guess that would have caused a major challenge for him – he was able to successfully hide his  identity (ever since the site was started) and now, one of those ‘momentary lapse of reason’ got him out of the cover.

Interestingly, the Indian govt. has asked all ISPs to block SavitaBhabhi.com, and the site is still accessible.

What’s your take on savita bhabhi case? How different is it from tons of porn sites that are present on the web?

This is ridiculous! Puneet should not have been cornered and put in this situation. After reading the government writeup, I still do not see a reason why the site needed to be pulled down. This is a mockery of a democracy!

Adult sites including porn, betting, etc. thrive throughout the world and so do Adult videos, books, etc. Bollywood and Hollywood continues to release Adult rated movies for public consumption – I dont see why websites cannot be rated and regulated accordingly. Many adult sites are required to ask tons of age related questions to ensure teens/kids are not privy to online gambling, etc.

Whats next? Go the China way and ban non-Indian owned adult sites from Indian viewers? The Govt of India needs to create regulations and policy around web usage for various e-commerce activities not just escape the hard thinking work by closing down sites!!

    2. RYK says:

total abuse of power by the government. They should not have blocked the site under “national security” powers. Shocking!

For the same reason National ID Project is so scary: all your data in one place reviewable by any government guy!

    3. Anonymous says:

The site has been rightly closed down. The issue is not censorship or moral, but a legal one.

Porn is NOT legal in India at this time, hence any direct attempt to bring/sell/show porn in india will be stopped, it is a legal requirement.

The govt has only asked Indian ISPs to ban the site, which means elsewhere in the world, where porn is legal you can access the site – in fact the author could continue his work in that way.

The author should count himself lucky he is not being chased & charged under offensive/obscenity acts etc after going public.

Why are people simply reacting because of censorship, it is not a censorship of any fundamental right etc which is being violated. This case cannot be made into a freedom of speech type issue as it violates a legal rule.

If people have issue with this, first argue against porn & it’s perception and legal acceptability in various forms in Indian Penal code.

Hi Anonymous, Your point on ‘Porn is not Legal’ in India is well taken. No doubt. However, the problem is with the ‘selective’ of these legal clauses. The Govt then should apply the same rule and ask ISPs to block all the Porn Sites in India.

          @Anon
Porn is not legal in India?
Well, there are millions of site selling full hardcore porn – the reason SavitaBhabhi suffered is because of the cultural issue.
