Samsung has launched ‘Samsung Guru E1107’ phone that runs on solar powered battery.
The phone, targeted towards Rural India provides 5 ~ 10 minutes talk time for an hour of charging and has an inbuilt Torch as well.

- 3.86cm (1.52) LCD provides comfortable viewing of menus and text.
- Mobile Tracker – Automatically sends SMS to a specific number set in advance when mobile is lost or stolen and the SIM card is replaced.
- Enhanced Security – Send emergency SOS messages to pre-designated contacts.
- An interesting feature is Fake Call, that sets off a ringbones so users can pretend they have an incoming call. [more]

Targeted towards rural India, the phone is priced at Rs. 2,799/.
Samsung vs. Nokia
In India, Nokia is losing out to local players as well as Samsung (read: Nokia Market Share in India). In 2009-10, Nokia’s market share has declined from 64% to 52.2%, while Samsung gained market share [from 10% to 17.4%].
Interestingly, Nokia earlier announced Bicycle Charger Kit and while the device will be launched in Q4 2010, Samsung has already launched E1107.
Who has a better pulse of the rural market?
Too good phone… Samsung is really concentrating on indian markets and making phones for special indian market. I am sure Samsung guru is real hit.

Well, features are fine but think, for 5 to 10 min talk we need to charge it for 1 hour. So one daily basis to talk to different people on regular purpose for a common man, min to min atleast nearly 1 hour he can talk. So for every 10 min if i put up 1 hour to charge my mobile. Think how much time i need to waste my time in charging.
I think There are phones developed by local players which are less than 1500/- and give more worth
I use Huawei tata indicom black and white model, i got it for 1200/- in Hyderabad, superb battery life. Due to Laila Cyclone effect, we didnt had power for 3 days and my phone battery still showed 2 points
The reason y mobile market is TOP always because people started calling up and talking and also many offers by many operators 1/2 paisa per second ( latest ) from MTS, Talking is cheap now,
Battery life is important and for me this model from samsung where it takes 1 hour charging for 10 min talk is a waste one
