It is true that there were lot of uncertainties over cloud based applications when its commercial launch happened especially in India. But today things are different, I believe. People are comfortable with Project collaboration service on SaaS (Eg:Deskaway), HR/Payroll Software(Eg: Greytip Online ),Online Content Management tools etc.

Business Owners and CIOs are showing more interest in SaaS products. SaaS is an excellent delivery model but I think it can't replace large scale enterprise applications. SaaS is the best choice for Small Business & Process Management Outsourcing firms.

Good information on how to handle objections on SaaS. There are few benefits, which SaaS delivers, which is not possible with internal/customized software are
1. On-demand availability
- SaaS services are available at much shorter time span than required by general owned software approach
2. Flexibility
- SaaS offers you options. For example if you don't like hotmail/orkut one can try yahoo/facebook respectively
3. Affordability
- SaaS offers much cheaper option than normal software license option. It is true even more for SMBs as they may not want to get into capex.

SaaS is great for all the obvious reasons. However, what kills SaaS for me is the network latency that I have to endure while I'm working. It is disruptive for any normal working thought process. Unless a SaaS application is as responsive as a desktop application, it is a poor bargain for me.

I'm sure SaaS and our networks will get there some day, and when that happens, I will gladly embrace it...
