Rediff has announced an investment in Imere, Bangalore based startup that provides location-awareness platform.
Imere gives service providers and application developers the ability to quickly and easily location-enable their applications. This includes integrating digital maps and database content drawn from multiple sources for enabling.
Imere relies on cell-id and wifi id to decode the geographic location and bring relevant location based services (like localized ads, connecting to your friends who are in the vicinity etc).
The company has launched Ohe!, a mobile application that automatically shows you accurate location of interesting people around you, including that of your friends. You can chat, tag places, tweet with location and see what to do around you.
Beyond the investment (details aren’t yet known), two of Rediff’s properties might integrate this service – Rediff maps and Rediff classifieds (now called Rediff LocalAds) which attempts to bring in location aware depth in data.
Rediff’s earlier investment include Vakow (which is looking for a buyer), Eterno Infotech and Quilpad.

i presume LBS Startup means Location Based Services..
initially, looking at the headline on twitter, I thought it meant London Business School
Congrats to Imere’s team. Very few companies in the world have the database of cell-id/wifi-id. Good stuff.
not really – this is all publicity stunt. have you checked the imere website ! it is all crap !
I’ve known the team since sometime and always knew they will make it one day. Nice to see this. Way to go…
