Mumbai terror attack is all over the media, and it’s quite a shame to see how Indian media is going overboard in detailing out the events minute-by-minute.
First of all, lets try to understand the basic intention behind all these attacks – it’s not just to kill few 100 people, but the bigger intent is to spread panic. Bring the country to halt.
And what is Indian media doing? Covering live show of the terrorist attack (as if it’s a rock show?)? Calling the attack as India’s 9/11? In short, ensuring that they complete the rest of the task left by terrorists? i.e. spread panic all over the country, so that businesses and regular life suffers all over the country and is just not limited to Mumbai – exactly what the terrorists ordered for.
The competition right now is to capture the event as closely as possible, interview hostages (ask them what did they go through? WTF!) without caring about the sentiments of what they have gone through.
Is there a code of conduct for media during such events? If not, we need one.
What about one’s right of information?
If you are one of those, who needs right/left and center of information (minute-by-minute detail), please hop on to the exact location and watch the event as-it-unfolds.
There is no reason why one should get into the tactic/strategy being used by NSG – it’s time to question leaders and not just view ‘drama’ on your TV set.
Time to show solidarity and maturity in our actions (and words). Hope media gets this.
[PS: Apologies if we have digressed from the main topic of this site, but I hope you understand the reason.]

Due to the Media Top police man were killed [dont remeber the name], terror saw the police men removing his bullet proof jacket the moment terror seen that he shot the top police man: Who was the reaoson obviously crap media. Even in CNN-IBN media raising political issue in order to run the show complete hour but the ministry stopped that question and answerd that we need to fight that in unity please dont bring political issue here.
1/2 if the trajedy its a media who deteriorate the whole medium.
its a shame on them, really. I am really, really, really..sick of them.
Media is also brought panic among big investors, media asking investors like this: “will be you be selling how much share if mkt open 2moro”. WTF here about “selling” keyword here. Minute later one FII told, this issue of terror is not just for india but its for the WORLD, no question of buy or sell here stop asking irrelevant question and media anchor face was calm for 10sec.
One strategy analyst told that this blast was made to convey the message that india is not safe investment destination hampering the indian growth ?.
Totaly sad about this whole.
and what about those techies who do nothing (apart from chair warming) other than tweet and take on e-terrorists!
The live channels should consider broadcasting updates every hour instead of pushing minute-by-minute details and real-time “analysis”. Atleast take the time to parse and digest the information flowing into the studio before confusing everyone or spreading the panic.

It looks like every journo knows everything about every possible topic.
One bugger looked at a photograph, saw a wrist watch and prophesized that the terrorists had timer controlled devices. WTF!
Guys I appreciate your concerns and I really apprecaite pluggd bringing this up. However, I strongly feel that the media shows what the users want….this is one thing that we control unlike the countries politics OR the terrorists fanaticism……the media shows exactly what the viewers want .. MASALA!!!
All we need to do is get a movement organized for acceptable practices by Media and get the social fabric a little strong.
Smoking bans don’t help strengthen the social fabric, it is awareness and policies like these that the Home Ministry should be looking into.
I hope we all understand what am hinting at and do something before a new generation rises up thinking that violence is OK and you can play GTA on Mumbai streets
Don’t know mate. their words really hurt.. I watched it happening all night .. and few channel were broadcasting as some circus is going on .. or some kind of saas-bahu serial is going on … It was degrading and inhuman ..
Media companies will present content that increases eyeballs and advertising revenue.
If you don’t like it – switch the channel or switch off the TV.
NDTV, Times Now, CNN-IBN – this is the business time for them now.
apart from earning from ads, they also help terror showing every move that our army, commandos take. do they get money for this?
are they doing all this just bcoz they are patriotic to this country or just to increase their TRP?
I don’t agree on this. No ads were displayed in any of these channels for the first two days of terror.
However, i do agree that the media overdid the whole episode.
ur consideration of ads is not the rgt one – the fight was all about TRP (ads will follow later).
Its abt whether barkha datt or arnab wins the next journalist award..etc etc..
Guys.. Why are you watching TV then? Switch it off.
What do you suggest Indian TV does then… cover Delhi’s preparations for the Commonwealth Games? Lets get a little realistic here.
An Ostrich covers its head under sand and assumes the hunter cannot see it. Unfortunately, that trick doesn’t work!!
The point is not to Switch-Off TV, if u don’t like it. The point is asking the media if its being responsible? The Media has the power to shape Public opinion. It has to think twice before it wields its power. Spreading confusion/panic/rumors is highly likely when u cover news real-time minute-by-minute.
Yes, this is a free country and we have right to free speech and a free press. But, lets not forget, we are also responsible for our actions.
Thanks!

Truly agree on PluggdIn..
I’m sick tired of minority appeasement politics of UPA led by Sonia and her dildo Manmohan. Its time we have better representatives at the center.
one more example of maturity

au contraire, most of the coverage you say was delayed, not live which the media had done intentionally on request of the authorities, so, although the coverage wasn’t something to talk about, atleast it didn’t jeopardize the efforts of the NSG.
except for CNN-IBN, and that too on second day (second half)
Couldn’t agree with you more.
very rightly put. by giving a minute by minute and also live account of what happened during those 3 gory days, they were also helping the terrorists. They knew of the next move of the police thru TV channels and media people.
So although the intentions of the media people was good, there needs to be some control over the media in such kind of a situation.
Wat a nonsense! Here is the question of life and death and u all are talking about freedom and all! I would rather give up my freedom then to see some F terrorists kill my dear ones. The situations which followed up, like wrong media coverage and all that clearly shows that govt. was not prepared, we were not prepared… Now it is our duty to think what to do next… prevent it, watch it happen again or change the rules… If govt. Cant do it, we have to….without any F politics!
