Orkut, recently revamped the product (Orkut goes for a Facelift – Do you care?) and has now launched couple of new features for those who enjoy sharing photographs at Orkut.

Recently updated features include

In-line photo browsing

Clicking on a pic thumbnail will load the photo (i.e. no need to load the page) and one can also comment on the photo and see comments by others in your activity stream.

Face Detection

Clicking the “people in this photo” link at the bottom left of a photo highlights all of the faces that orkut has automatically detected with rectangles. Just click on a rectangle to tag a face by typing a name in the pop-up box. You can also hide the rectangles with a single click.

Photo slideshows

And now, you can view photo slideshows by clicking on the newly launched ‘slideshow’ icon (located at the bottom right of the full view of the photo). – via

Do give the new features a spin and share your opinions.

Update: Orkut has also launched bookmarklet feature for orkut users to share interesting web content with their friend.(via)

And no integration with other google properties like picasaewb. Issue could be because these (orkut) albums are visible to specific users (friends). and picasa web has public and private and strong private class.

Solution would be to add by default all orkut friends to “people with i share” list on picasaweb. Don’t know what else could be issue. May be some sync issue at both places.
