Zoho Writer gets a competitive update today – after enabling users to login using Google/Yahoo account, Zoho writer now allows one to import their Google docs into Zoho.

Follow these steps:

• Login to your Google Docs account & choose the documents that you need to export to Zoho
• Click on More actions -> Save as HTML (zipped) to your desktop
• In Zoho Writer, click on Import -> Import Google Docs, select the zipped file path and click Import
• All the Google Docs documents in the zip file will be imported into your Zoho Writer account & will be displayed in the left panel

I am not sure how “Import Google docs” feature will be received by Google, as Zoho is potentially trying to take away users from Google to Zoho and Google doesn’t get anything in return.

Google’s earlier support to Zoho in implementing Google gears is quite logical, since Google wants wider adoption of gears and to sit on top of all possible browser based apps (and in the process, make desktop redundant?).

But Zoho writer enabling users to use “Zoho as a backup service” for Google docs?

Well, Zoho surely is pulling the “G” string and we will see how Google reacts to this.
