dude..commenting policy is just below the comment section (link: http://www.pluggd.in/commenting-policy/).

I am sure a lot of geeks here are taking the logical reasoning, but fail to understand what's mentioned in the article here.

It's actually surprising that a lot of folks here failed to understand the real context of this article.

But then, mediocrity is what defines India (and am sure a lot of you are feeling ashamed of Googlle story and the fact that you are an Indian..aren't you guys?).

@sinha - keep up the ballsy route

@Ashish - I am not sure how many posts I have read at Pluggd. In blasting companies for not engaging their users or for having poor customer service. I am shocked to see you doing the same thing with this post.

Number of readers of this blog found this particular post to be in bad taste as can be seen by the comments on the post. Vinuth, made an effort to point out why this post is giving a biased view. Instead of ad-hominem attacks on him you should point out the fallacy in his reasoning.

Again if TC covers anything any everything related to Indian Startups where does that leave Pluggd.In.

This is the second time you have asked someone to read the commenting policy but have failed to provide a link to it. I have asked for it before and will ask for it again.

Provide the link for the commenting policy and ensure that they are fairly applied. What I mean is that warn everyone who stoop to personal attacks and not just the people who happen to disagree with your position.

Finally, @Vernon and @Vishal, even though I found this post and the comments distasteful I am not saying that innovation does not happen in India.

Normally I dont reply to anon guys..but I am trying to help people see the bigger picture (and not the world from their eyes).
If you look at comments on the TC post, there are 3 types - 1 that says they are ashamed of India, 2) people making fun of India, 3) People blasting back TC for stupid coverage.

We will speak our mind & heart out in this blog.
And being an anon coward, please dont give any advice - it has no meaning. (btw, read our commenting policy)

The exchange between Vinuth and Ashish makes me question why I should take this blog seriously.

Ashish, of course you can disagree with your readers, but if you want to be taken seriously don't stoop to the level of personal attacks. Fail to learn this lesson, and your site becomes nothing more than yet another source of gutter journalism.

I look forward to seeing better things here.

"its just a fact that our market is very different from theirs and so they won’t think that our innovations or our companies are worth covering since they don’t really excite them" - well, this is the exact pt. that has been covered in the post.

Emerging markets is a different ballgame and that's where a lot of silicon valley firms fail to understand. Except Google, very few companies have global org structure

It's true of every major country.

The post is about Silicon Valley’s (and TC’s) portrayal of India

And I explained why, the portrayal isn't always negative. Cherry picking one instance, which was an amusing post for sure, doesn't make your argument convincing.

The fact that they have several people scouting Indian startup scene, shows they are taking it seriously.

talking about smsgupshup/NRN funds are just news items..

No. They did a video interview with SMSGupShup's founder. Scoble was interviewing along with Mike. Thats not just news. They covered lifeblob. They awarded iMo in TC50. There really isn't any discrimination that I can see. And they are basically in the business of covering tech scene in America, and they sure miss out a lot of innovative companies from Israel, UK, China, etc., And they are starting country specific blogs for some... You know all of this. But somehow this one post about Googlle university pissed off enough to negate all of these things.

Silicon Valley cannot look at India with their own lens

I think they realize this. Their posts prove it.

You will never see a Google/Yahoo from India. We aren’t the market for that.

They meant the "next big thing", "the next innovative company" could very well be from here or China.

“this post seems opportunistic stab and whiny” – well, so does your comment.

Cool. So we finally agree on at least one part of it. :)

Anyway. I guess, this current discussion doesn't matter in the larger picture. I'm thankful to Pluggd.in for covering Indian Startups extensively and you do a great job. I just disagree with this post and I have written my reasons for it. I guess we can move on now.

Vinuth
I am not sure what makes you believe this "don’t see what Silicon Valley owes to Indian startups.". Nobody owes anything to anybody.
The post is about Silicon Valley's (and TC's) portrayal of India - talking about smsgupshup/NRN funds are just news items..
And if you don't think there are enough good startups in india..take off your 'geeky' lens - there are 2 year old companies who owns few % of goog search in india..there are guys who made double digit crore money within 2 years (and are now targeting triple).
Silicon Valley cannot look at India with their own lens - emerging markets are a different beast. they have their own challenges and opportunities. You will never see a Google/Yahoo from India. We aren't the market for that.

"this post seems opportunistic stab and whiny" - well, so does your comment.

shows your unawareness about indian startups and the ones who are innovating.

Then pluggd.in has done a poor job of educating me :D

Anyway, I don't see how some of the "innovative" solutions you speak of are relevant to western audience, or can excite them.

They covered most of the big news, SMSGupShup(twice), NRN's venture fund, etc., etc.,

They also covered how India / China are growing and how the next google can come from here. Vivek Wadhwa is a pretty strong voice there, even if many comments ridicule him.

And somehow this one post is going to cast a bad light on entire Indian startup scene. Ridiculous. You need to gather more material to make a convincing point.

Finally, I don't see what Silicon Valley owes to Indian startups. Nor do I see how Indian starups, in their current form, are rupturing their business enough to matter to them.

And they are scouting. It's not like they are being totally blind. So, this post seems opportunistic stab and whiny, nothing more. Thats my opinion. I'm glad I gave you some laughs.

Then pluggd.in has done a poor job of educating me

Anyway, I don’t see how some of the “innovative” solutions you speak of are relevant to western audience, or can excite them.

Quite a sick reply!
"We currently don’t have any offering that excites them or matters to them and the audience they serve. Period" - shows your unawareness about indian startups and the ones who are innovating.

your reply made me laugh because it represents your thought process. Whats being discussed here is at a grand scale - of silicon valley (where TC is a strong voice) and their portray of India..

Yeah, we are great and nobody recognizes our greatness. They are all ignorant, closed-minded bastards.

This attitude isn't going to take us anywhere nor make us great. We currently don't have any offering that excites them or matters to them and the audience they serve. Period.

Whenever things have excited them, they have covered it. Eg: iMo got best presentation award in TC50.

It's like people cursing me for not seeing Kannada movies. Whiny.

I dont think its a bogus story at all.I think you are missing the point.I feel it will help someone identify the Googlle thing is not of google(becuase of using similar logo and name) or possibly google sueing that company for misusing their brand name.

In defense of TechMorons: Why does it matter to PI readers what TC thinks about India? This post does nothing to further what PI stands for.

Also, I could not find the commenting policy. Could you point to it?

Not really..I admire TC for what they have achived.
To give you certain context, I met Sarah when she was in India and even suggested her that she should meet more serious startups than the ones she was being introduced to (thanks to all her 'big guys connection')..

And she ended up writing about NIIT and all the great MMT story..which to me looked more journalistic in nature

You just shared a moronic comment.
The post is not about TC vs. pluggd.in - its abt TC, which is a signigificant voice in slicon valley and their lack of awareness abt India (and attempt to keep reinforcing their perception).

Next time you reply, read our commenting policy.
