The cat is out of the bag and Nokia N900 has been launched in India. N900 is priced at Rs. 30,639/ 25,000 (MRP) and will be available from this month onwards.
N900 boasts of *full browser*, i.e. implementation of Mozilla engine, has quite a lot of impressive features like powerful OMAP processor with OpenGL ES 2.0 support, 1 GB of Application RAM, 32GB storage (expandable upto 48GB), 3.5in widescreen touch display, QWERTY keyboard, 5 MP camera, GPS and Quad-band GSM, EDGE, GPRS and WCDMA support, on the hardware side.
On the software side, Maemo 5 has a lot of interesting features like the Mozilla engine based browser, a complete suite of open source applications for Media playback , support for Adobe Flash 9.4, multiple desktops , Widgets and an Application manager.
Another cool thing about Maemo 5 on the N900 is it’s support for multi-tasking which is sure to show an enhanced performance, possibly even better than the iPhone.[our earlier review of Maemo].
N900 Sales Worldwide
Nokia N900 is probably Nokia’s most ambitious project (after the failure of N97) and as per Reuters, Nokia has sold less than 100,000 units in the first five months of the launch [compare this with 8.75mn iPhones in the month of Jan-March alone]
N900 or iPhone?
Here is a great comparison between the two.
How much are you willing to pay for N900?

i wont pay that much amount for a phone, even i am comfortable withe nokia old series where i can browse, take video, take photos, store songs, live radio what i want more than these
Sai Pothuri
There are infinite number of possibilities with linux . I can write any thing going from bash scripts to device drivers … wow I am excited
Dear Sai,
I agree that you can do 70% of the things with ur old phone. But to compare that old phone with nokia n900 would be like comparing Rakhi Sawant with Aishwarya.. Rakhi has everything that Aish has and can do whaterver Aish can do… but there is a difference, only quality aware people can understand.
If you can’t afford it say that its high priced.. but don’t talk irrational…
From my experience I can say the the phone is worth its cost..
Pls do not fall for the phones hardware specs, read through this forum posts for potential issues so that you arent disappointed by the purchase.
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=35391&highlight=potential+buyers
In simple words, maemo lacks most of the common smartphone features such as
- 3G video calling
- Call duration timers
- Limited portrait mode
- UI not consistent
- Battery draining
- No OVI music support, PC Suite, Voice navigation. Only OVI maps but limited features and it sucks
- Issues with Exchange mail, synching contacts and calendar.
- Issues with Media player, doesnt play DRM, Doesnt allow to add custom playlists, can sync with OVI music.
- Limited apps in Ovi store
- Cant add contacts to SIM
- No portrait virtual Key board
- No contact based ringtones
List goes on & On. So be sure before you spend your money and most importantly this will be the last phone on maemo5 as its EoL. Nokia has joined hands with Intel to create Meego. It is officially announced that Meego will not be released for Nokia N900
Afer using n900 for over a month i can say that except for the battery problem, all other problems that you listed are never going to bother you…
I only wish that ovi maps for n900 were having voice guidance like they have for other handsets. You can get around this problem with third party mappero(free application).
What will please you most is its browsing experience, identical to what you do on computer..
its powerful camera and dual flash (clicks crystal clear picture.. better than anyother mobile cam)
Integrated video call, voice call, chat for gtalk, facebook, skype, SIP, jabber, etc
I don’t know which phone you used, but the N900 does have 3G video calling especially if you updated to the current Maemo. And I keep copying numbers to my sim card.what are you on about??It does have an option of a virtual keyboard on potrait if you install it through the extra deps.AS for the custom playlists, there is a pretty good video on youtube how to go about that.I have had no issues with email syncs whatsoever. The battery only drains if your connected to the net the whole day keeping all the widgets on.Clearly you haven’t used the N900 very long.So please don’t make a fool out of yourself
Dont buy nokia, they have inferior technology.
If you are paying for a good phone, buy an android phone.
1 GB of Application RAM…wow…..really cool specs….if you compare iphone and nokia
iphone = better UI + strong applications.
nokia = great MP3 player + great battery life.

N900 sales worldwide was wrong in Reuters and your article should be corrected. Corrections were published the same day in proper media.

N900 not worth for the price tag it carries.spending 4k to 5k more for iphone is better than buying n900.apple has superior technology than nokia and its worth paying that much for an iphone.
Guess you lack the capability to compare two great products…
Though iphone is definetly a great phone..Nokia N900 is way better than iphone..
well……iphone can be just called a good touch phone and for gud pics…….when compared to other features and net browsin facility….n900 is a far better one…….wid many advanced features…
Nokia n900 is great phone , but the gratest disappointment is that “it does not 3g video calling” .
Who said that to you man.I have own a nokia n900.And it has a good video call facility.if you have any troubles to make any video calls try BSNL and MTNL they are the best man.if you have any problems send me a email (sudipta9748@gmail.com) BYE MAN

Nokia N900 is an appealing phone. The resolution and quality of the screen is very good in which a user can watch video at its best. The functions of the handset are so easy that a person can operate it without reading the manual.
Really I like this phone and would prefer to go for !!!!!!
I m going to buy this phn today….wow
can anyone tell me that how i can buy N8 and N900 from india ?
can anybody help me out…hw can i change nokia N900 ringtone and message tone..is it possible?…which i am unable to do..also could anyone suggest what to be done if incase one has forgoten the code to unlock it which is my current bigg problem…
you need to download some application
the best geeky phone ever built nokia n900
which other mobile come close to n900 for internet ,blogging im,chat ,email, video chat all with a keyboard.
i am sure none. world hasnt advanced more than n900.
when i use all of the feature simultaneuosly i get 6-8 hour battery life.
when i just use features randomly 8-12 hours.
when i dont use anything but couple of calls 12-24 hours.
the trick .as mentioned above turn off they are all simple.
1.turn phone features when not in use.
2. TURN OFF GPS FEATURE IF YOU DONT USE (it is generally useless in daily life except in travel)
3.camera uses pretty much power, reduce the usage.
4.wlan uses good amount of power if you dont want turn it off.
5.internet browser is very powerful and feature rich it is the very much power hungry too.
i learnt all this using application battery eye which plots a graph of power
6.video chat is also power hungry as it uses most of the vitals .
you need not turn off everything to just get maximum battery life.
rather use it wisely it is a geek phone like a newborn baby . everything is open , so we need to program it, guide it to operate optimaly.
i complained for couple of days, now i cant live without it.sometimes i move with charger in hand. but i now i know i could deliver.
i wish nokia could muscular battery of 1500 or 2000ma then it would be a true internet tablet but that will increase the wiegth of the n900 too much.
so for the time being nokia n900 is justified as feature packed amazing device.
i want this phone but i have only 10000 rs
