Nokia Launches E72 in India @23K INR
Nokia has launched E72, the business phone in India that boasts of a ‘most successful’ QWERTY keyboard (derived from E71) and desktop like email and chat experience.
The latest version of Ovi Maps with A-GPS navigation and compass, an optical navi key and 5 megapixel camera are all packed into the E72.
E72 Specifications
- 2.36″ display
- 250 MB free user disk space, 4 GB MicroSD memory card (with hot swap), support for up to 16 GB
- Push Email Support (be it MS Exchange or Lotus Notes)
- Integrated QWERTY keyboard, optical navi key and QVGA display
- 5 MP camera
- Assisted GPS and preinstalled Nokia Maps
Nokia’s own e-mail service, Nokia Messaging, comes pre-installed with the E72. E72 is also preinstalled with full IM support (multiple communities support/clients).
Nokia E72 can also accommodate multiple work and personal email accounts and, with separate profiles for work and play, allows people to be flexible when it comes to choosing how, when, where and who to respond to.
E72 is positioned as an email & chat phone (tagline: How we Respond is who we are) that lets people respond at their ease (phone features are influenced/based on ‘Responsiveness Research’ conducted by Nokia)
Nokia’s Responsiveness Research
Nokia conducted a responsiveness research(among 7,826 people in seven countries during July 2009), asking people on their responsiveness towards the various mode of response (email/voice etc) and here are some interesting results
- Three quarters of people (76%) spend up to an hour of their working day responding to emails
- 20% of people spend, on average, 20 minutes a day reading emails they receive – which means we spend approximately one minute digesting each email we receive.
- If people want to respond quickly to an email, they will often resort to more traditional methods of
communication:
- 46% will call the sender
- 25% will text
- 23% will email
- 10% of Russians choose to respond to important emails via instant messaging – more than any other nation polled [details]
The phone costs Rs. 22,989 and is available in India from today onwards [Nokia site link]

“So how many phones does Nokia need to beat ‘that one’ iphone?”
wow! I guess in the long run iPhone will lose its charm as a brand, as people get bored of it. The strategy of Nokia is good for the long term play but only with a slower rate of return.
“E72 is also preinstalled with full IM support (multiple communities support/clients)”
My E72 never came with any pre-installed Nokia messaging client. i am wondering if its only my phone or all Nokia E72.
There seems to be some issue with the E72 handset. I checked out Nokia discussion forum last week and read quite a few posts about a hizzzing sound while making and receiving calls. The posts indicated that it could be owing to the non-performance of the noise-cancellation feature. Nokia hasn’t made any public announcement on the same as yet… Can someone please provide us with some update or an insight on this issue with he handset.
