Nokia has finally entered the dual SIM phone market with the announcement of C2.
The Nokia C2 can keep both SIM cards active; meaning calls and text messages can come to either number while the phone is on. The first SIM card on the Nokia C2 sits underneath the battery. The second SIM card is ‘hot-swappable’, a feature unique to Nokia, meaning it can be removed and inserted when the phone is on.
The phone is designed for emerging markets and is integrated with Nokia Life Tools service (for information on healthcare, agriculture, education and entertainment) as well as Ovi Mail.
Why Dual SIM? Why now?
Nokia is losing market share to local companies like Micromax, Karbonn (and ofcourse, BlackCherries of the world) and devices like C2 will probably help them regain the lost market share.
Priced at EURO 45 (i.e. INR 2520) before tax and subsidies, the phone will be launched in Q4, 2010 and apart from basic features (like FM radio/1000 entries for Address Books), the claimed battery life of up to 16.5 days and support for up to 32GB microSD card seems to make it a worthwhile wait.
Rural India
Nokia’s biggest value proposition for Rural India is the Life Tools service and even though Micromax(s) of the world imitate the design, add *zing* features like touch and sell at 50% of Nokia’s price, do you think life tools integration can help Nokia bring back the lost market?
All one knows is that Nokia needs another *1100* story in India. Desperately.
As companies like Micromax, Karbonn continue to expand, Nokia will face stiff competition from companies who sell *stylish/good looking* phones than feature phones.
Maybe the rural segment too is looking for something more than feature phone!
What’s your opinion?

Dual Sim in the sense GSM + GSM or GSM + CDMA ?
Sai Pothuri
GSM+GSM ofcourse. If they were to use both hardware then you wouldn’t get it at 2500
if it GSM + GSM then i wont buy because i am planning to buy a mobile where i can put up my airtel number and tata number, its hard carrying 2 mobile phones and taking care of them all the times, any body can suggest me a phone model where i can use GSM + CDMA and costs around 2-3k thats it
Thanks for valuable suggestions
Sai Pothuri
I guess Samsung has something called Samsung 2On. check it out
but it costing about 10 – 15 k, my budget is below 3k

Go for Micromax GC275 which should be in your price range
But in GC275, u cannot use both the SIM cards simultaneously…i.e. it is not 2on…
Then go for Accord A714.
U can use CDMA+GSM both active at same time .
and even GSM+GSM.
Its Flexi Dual Sim.

I carry a primary phone(currently n70 and soon HTC Desire) and along with it a secondary one (w200i).
Whether it interests the rural areas or not, I’m surely going to give away my W200i, and use this as my spare phone along with my primary.
A feature packed phone with 32gb mem card support for 2500 is ultra-cheap. With minimal but required feature set, it’s surely value for money.
I’ll give it a heads up for it’s 3.5mm audio jack. Only hope they can be connected to PC without their Nokia PC suite and show themselves up as a storage device. That’ll be easier to connect it with Linux PCs.
I heard that there are 2 variants and one would feature a VGA camera too.
P.S: I don’t think it’ll have bluetooth hardware. It’s only 2500
And I hope it’s compatible with the bicycle charger kit. That’ll enable people in rural areas with less dependent power supply to charge their phones easily. A better innovation would have been bullock cart charging kit or just a charging kit that’ll hook up with any wheel (Pottery?
)
Well, brand nokia might help it regain the lost market share, but till the time local players offer phones with more or less same features and at half the price of Nokia phones, it will be very hard for Nokia to succeed in rural market.
A bit of price correction is required to sustain in rural market.
I need to know when it is available in india
The main feature what Nokia offering is Both the sims are active at the same time i mean If I am calling from SIM1, at the same time if some one call me on SIM2 phone shows call waiting while in all china made including Micromax, Max etc mobiles if one sim is engaged in call other sim will remain not reachable to caller. And of course its hot swappable sim feature is above all and regarding basic features like Mp3 bluetooth memory card support it is not less than any china phone. And above all no one can beat the quality of Nokia Mobiles
GSM+GSM is better deal with nokia
so,the good featured phone will launch it’s take up market
its not make gfive down ….not a powerfull cell phone it is!!!!!!bilkul he fudu va eeh mobile
