“It’s time for DTH to retire, introducing MyWay IPTV”, – that’s the bold ad line from Digivision, the franchisee for the IPTV launch by BSNL and MTNL.
Both BSNL and MTNL plan to take on private DTH providers with the launch of MyWay in 54 cities (these cities contribute to 80% of Broadband usage) in the next 3 months.
IPTV vs. DTH
Traditionally, IPTV has lost to DTH owing to the resolution and of course, the mandatory broadband connection.
To start with, Smart Digivision plans to offer the services to 1.6 million to 1.7 million broadband subscribers of BSNL and MTNL (in 54 cities).
Under the franchise agreement that Smart Digivision has signed with MTNL and BSNL, the company will have access to the companies’ subscribers as well as to the copper wires reaching their homes (the “last mile” connection in technical parlance). In return, the companies will be paid 10 to 25 per cent of the revenues from the service. – source
The biggest differentiator for MTNL/BSNL is that they can leverage their large fixed-line networks — larger than any private telecom competitor. Together, both cover 33 million fixed lines in India compared to about 4.5 million lines owned by four private service providers (even Bharti and RCom are planning their IPTV commercial launch).
What’s your take? How feasible is IPTV over DTH?
At last BSNL/MTNL started it’s journey with “MyWay”. Quality of IPTV will be much better than DTH. But, it’s time to see whether it reaches out faster than competitors to masses. Till date few cities has access to MyWay.

This is vaibhav this side. Dth is very different from iptv. DTH introduced the concept of Movies on Demand which works in the form of broadcast, for fixed time schedules and limited interactivity. But on the other hand the IPTV provides movies for whole day when you buy it. I am using MYWAY IPTV and can watch lots of movies which are free and there are some recent movies which i can buy. It is cool feature.
Moreover, Iptv have other features like favourite channel upfront, Parental control, Games, Rail way info ….. and lot more.
I feel if i u use bsnl or mtnl comnnection the network is good and u can watch good quality picture. I mean i feel Bsnl or mtnl connection is more feasible.

launched IPTV for BSNL customers in PUNE, NAGPUR, NASHIK, KALYAN, KOLHAPUR,
AURANGABAD & SOLAPUR. The services will reinvent home television
entertainment.
IPTV is one of the most discussed value added service on Telecom
Broadband infrastructure. IPTV which is an acronym for Internet Protocol Television
is many times misunderstood as Internet TV. Though IPTV is delivered through the

I CAME TO KNOW ONLY THROUGH THE PHONE FROM THE BSNL. BUT WHEN I WANT TO SEE ACTUAL COST FOR THE PAY CHENNELS, THERE IS NO CLEAR PICTURE WHICH PAY CHANNELS ARE INCLUDED IN THEIR 150 OR 95 CHENNELS. IF THEY WANT CUSTOMER THROUGH BB WAY THEY SHOULD BE CLEAR WHILE OFFERING THE CONCESSION. HENCE KINDLY GIVE INDIVIDUAL PAY CHENNELS TO ASSESS THE COST OF YOUR CHARGES AND COST OF LOCAL NET WORK CABLE OPERATOR.
