For us, Indian technology story is beyond Internet/Mobile industry and we do attempt to bring in few innovation that’s happening at the trenches.
Be it about Chotukool, the bottom of pyramid refrigerator or Millee (rural project that uses mobile gaming for learning) – we do attempt to profile some of these initiatives that impact the common man.
And today, we bring you Mitticool, a refrigerator that does not require electricity and is made of clay.
Conceptualized in 1997, Mitticool is developed by Gujarat based Manshuk Lal (who earlier worked as as a supervisor in roof tiles Manufacturer), and the product works on the basic principle of evaporation.
Mitti Cool Refrigerator weighs 20 kg (height:18.5’’ and width of 11’’) and the way it works is very simple – Water from the upper chambers drips down the side, taking heat from the inside gets evaporated, leaving the chambers cool.
Simple. Useful Product.
What’s your take?

really cool!
Very nice.. remembered the question I had in mind when I was this first on TV a few months back… Where can I buy it?
What is it priced at? We need to make sure that it is affordable by the common man.
U can call the inventor, Mansukhbhai, himself on 09825177249 or email him on info@mitticool.com
re frig: precursor? see also mohammed bah abba’s pot-in-pot cooler http://is.gd/5Le6n http://is.gd/5Leal (winning rolex prize 2000)
also, how often to add water? how to prevent mould from appearing? what sizes are available? can one buy the hardware and make their own clay box from a plan? how about an infra-red photograph to show minimal heat loss? is the door made from plexiglass? too much heat loss! why not a clay door?
also, price and distribution information is needed…
This fridge is so cool, no pun intended. I would love to purchase one and I am curious about where I can get it. If anyone could let me know that would be great. Thanks
where can i purchase this cool fridge….please do let me know…………
where can i get it?i read about this recently n thought i would order one…….it is very coooooooooool,if not the coolest of the coooooooooool
can this principle be wxtended to make room airconditioners?
It may be improved upon to increase efficiency even at a cost increase and a global patent should be obtained,
Best wishes
