For us, Indian technology story is beyond Internet/Mobile industry and we do attempt to bring in few innovation that’s happening at the trenches.

Mitti Cool Refrigerator made of clay

Mitti Cool Refrigerator

Be it about Chotukool, the bottom of pyramid refrigerator or Millee (rural project that uses mobile gaming for learning) – we do attempt to profile some of these initiatives that impact the common man.

And today, we bring you Mitticool, a refrigerator that does not require electricity and is made of clay.
Conceptualized in 1997, Mitticool is developed by Gujarat based Manshuk Lal (who earlier worked as as a supervisor in roof tiles Manufacturer), and the product works on the basic principle of evaporation.

Mitti Cool Refrigerator weighs 20 kg (height:18.5’’ and width of 11’’) and the way it works is very simple – Water from the upper chambers drips down the side, taking heat from the inside gets evaporated, leaving the chambers cool.

Simple. Useful Product.

also, how often to add water? how to prevent mould from appearing? what sizes are available? can one buy the hardware and make their own clay box from a plan? how about an infra-red photograph to show minimal heat loss? is the door made from plexiglass? too much heat loss! why not a clay door?

also, price and distribution information is needed…

It may be improved upon to increase efficiency even at a cost increase and a global patent should be obtained,
