International Map of Web 2.0 Applications

As web 2.0 expands its footprints, entrepreneurs across the globe are copying the successful web 2.0 ideas and are taking them to the next level or implementing them at a local/regional level.
Business 2.0′s latest issue has mapped these global web 2.0 companies/products on the world map.

As the article notes, innovation is no more restricted to Sillicon Valley alone. Small companies from India/Israel/ Australia/Ireland etc. are giving a stiff competition to their counterparts in the valley.

Business 2.0 has divided these global startups in six categories:

  • Social networks (like myspace),
  • Social media (like Flickr),
  • Webware (applications that work within the browser- like writely),
  • Aggregators (Digg.com) and
  • Mashups (sites that add features to an existing successful app like Google Maps etc), and
  • Internet TV (like YouTube)

Interestingly, most of these sites are in English (except for few like Digg.com’s German clone: Yigg.de)

Few interesting apps:
Zohowriter (India based), TheAdCloud (Chile based), myheritage.com (I wrote about them here), Metacafe (Israel based), Netvibes(French) and AllPeers (from Czech Republic)
