Machine Translation to Urdu Pak Translations [and more]
Tired of reading same old media stories about Pakistan’s political climate and stand-off with India (or cricket anyone)? Read on. In Pakistan too there are quaint beginnings of Tech Entrepreneurship, just as there are in ours. And the first start-up which caught my eye is an English->Urdu translation tool on a website called PakTranslations.com. Really, we need seamless translations between Urdu, English and Hindi!
The user-interface is a bit jarred at this point, but for an Urdu-illiterate like me, this is an indispensable tool should I get interested in reading Urdu Poetry.
Another, beta book-marklet by Syed Ghulam Akbar too is a translation tool based on Google’s Transliteration API and helps in converting English pages to languages like Arabic, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi etc. Syed Akbar says he is working on “Urdu to Hindi” translations coz both languages share a lot in grammar, morphology, and vocabulary, and yet majority of readers of one language can’t read the other written language”.
Akber, like many Indian casualprenuers, is developing his book-marklet as hobby right now and is looking forward to make it a professional activity sometime soon.
Does it look like Asian products rounding off over the Valley? Do give your thoughts #Pi readers.

i always keep in mind that unique and innovative products always rock, and on the other side coders do create apps which are already created but with slight difference, suppose for editing a photo there might be lakhs of apps available for download but photoshop is the only one professionals use to edit the photo
Asian products always moved round the US products with some slight difference by providing some couple of extra tools
Indian coders are fast learners and fast implementers, but they implement for foreign products ( even microsoft products do have indians in there developer teams ) not for desi products. People dont create a unique system here, because they always fear that it wont run. They create for some other country where there it will be implemented and slowly we implement it from them
Be Unique and Be Truth enough if anybody created a new product with unique features that will always rock. for example youtube, where a video of any format of any size can be viewed online, what happened acquired by Google or not?
So for products which are unique will always rock and we asian people need to create them here so that in this world silicon valley is not only the valley for software guys
Thanks & Regards

@Arvind,
Thank you so much for this writeup. It is really encouraging to see that there are people on both sides of the border who highlight the positive stuff.
Politicians (and cricketers) aren’t going to try to cut down the psychological divide between the two countries anyway. The only hope is the people themselves.
And kudos to Syed Ghulam Akber on his work too.
Cheers,
Mubashar.
@arvind
The beta book-marklet by Syed Ghulam Akbar is based on Google’s Transliteration API and not Translation API as mentioned in the article.
Hindi is the only Indian language for which google currently has Translation API.
Check out our Bilingual search at http://www.Hindi.co.in or http://www.??????.com (developed using Google Ajax search API and adapted from 2lingual programmable mashup)
My bad, stands corrected…:-)
It proves that people read the articles so carefully
Thanks Ravi

?Human translation is the best. Machine translation standard is not even 30% quality. Some times word to word translation.

?The technology is improving rapidly and it does the effect of creating and also destroying jobs.
There are number of translating professionals in the world, if one tends to catch hold of improvement in accuracy of these translation, one can certainly foresee a massive drop in demand for such professionals.

The same service already exists for almost 2 years on the web. Traduwiki.org is a translation tool designed for group and organization purposes. Functionalities are the same. Google isn’t innovating on this one.
If we can get the quality translation from softwares then how there is still lots and lots of translators being very busy???
People all over the world take the lowest-rate-loans.com from different creditors, because it’s comfortable.
