MetroMela partners with Google for Local Search Content

MetroMela (read our review) has tied up with Google for content partnership – Google’s local search will feature MetroMela’s reviews, photos, business contact details and category information.

Google has also partnered with Burrp, MyHotelVideo and TripAdvisor for displaying reviews from their site.

Google’s local strategy is quite interesting – they want to stick to their core business (and monetize that), i.e. search and don’t want to be in review business (or is it that Google just can’t build a “community” product, on it’s own?)

What do you think?

Google has been very consistent with its strategy when it comes to owning content(except youtube). I recall Eric Schmidt saying something along these lines: “We don’t want to fight the open internet. We don’t want to get into the business of media. Our business is in enabling media; connect users with content”
