MetroMela has launched sms service enabling users to search via sms as well as receive deal alerts.

MetroMe’la’s claimed difference is that they take care of common spelling mistakes in queries and can handle complex queries too , i.e. not just store names or category names, but more generic words.

Using sms alert service, you can set alerts for deals in stores and categories, and also for new stores in a category (details).

MetroMela, available in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Cochin, Chennai, Pune, Mysore and Wizag recently partnered with Google for content sharing.

MetroMela will launch the wap site and a downloadable app very soon (asklaila has already done that)

The local search space is witnessing lot of action and most of the small players are partnering with biggies for content sharing/licensing as a revenue stream. The clear business model is yet to evolve. JustDial is clearly leading the game owing to it’s 10 years of strong data and brand recall.

What’s your take?
