As part of our coverage of Education Industry, here is one great organization that is changing the way education is delivered.
The Khan Academy started by Salman Khan, a Harvard Business School alum takes a radically different approach to education.
Salman was working as a hedge fund analyst and was remotely tutoring his cousins and once his tutorials got a little famous, he ended up delivering the same (read: repetitive) tutoring to other students.
He started recording the videos and put up the tutorials on Youtube. Initially, he started creating tutions using Microsoft Paint (black background/florescent colors) and later moved to sophisticated software donated by the site viewers.
Salman covers pretty much all the range student asks for – mathematics to Economics, Algebra, Trigonometry, Physics, Chemisty etc.
Whats amazing about Khan academy is the simplicity of operation – its a one man show. As of writing this article, there were 13 million views of the academy videos on Youtube; and the videos are visited by 100,000 students a month, averaging around 40,000 video views a day!
Check out these sample videos:
Groups of the Periodic Table
Introduction to differential equations
Calculus: Derivatives 1
Great things start with tiny steps.
Will this *hack” change the legacy way of ‘learning’ [education and learning are separate things]. What’s your opinion?
[Thanks Benjamin for the tip.]

Thanks Ashish for sharing this inspiring story of Mr. Khan.
Lots of subjects covered for a 1-man-show.
A big Salute to Salman Khan.
Wow!! Its really great and yes it could turn out to be a good business as well. Well done Mr. Khan and all the best for the future.
It really is a great website to learn.
I dont think it would change the way we learn , we will still go to school , still listen to the boring teachers and still struggle to understand what they say , what it does changes is that it gives the problem at hand a whole new look , a second perspective , and that helps a lot when your stuck in differential calculus or be it advanced algorithms.
And it might take off well in India too , cause more and more people look up on the internet for solutions to their problems. Just see how well Google and Wikipedia are
Yep this is a great site, and Salman is just the most wonderful person to be doing this. A small addendum to the post – these videos on available via the iPhone as well through the Khan Academy app on the app store. Suchit Agarwal, Kapeesh and me created a small little app “Khan Academy” working with Salman in our free time and based on the reviews people really like it! If this is a new trend in education, it sure is revolutionary!
That’s great Rahul! Keep up the good work.

I’m one of the users of Khan Academy, and I must say It’s one of those wonderful things that are way too difficult describe in words. You have to use it to experience the beauty of this project and how revolutionary this one-man-show is.Simplicity at its best and ever expanding.I discovered about this website first through an article published in ReadWriteWeb and it didn’t take long to realise this one was my ultimate web discovery that would soon become indispensable for my own studies.Greatest work!
Sinha,
what do u say about a model in which the existing group buying site showcases the deals of other site exactly like aggregators and also make an exclusive deals of its own.. do u mean this by saying even aggregators have to work and sell something exclusively??
If anyone actually does that would he have any recognition for his own deals?? i don’t think so.
suggest me.
