Zapak has decided to shut down it’s Bangalore office and has fired close to 40 employees (from confirmed sources)
Few employees have been asked to relocate to Mumbai or..leave and confirmed sources tell us that they are planning to layoff another 25 employees.
In general, the subscription based business hasn’t worked in Mobile entertainment and though Zapak recently launched ad-supported games,it will be an uphill task to get those subscriptions (and that’s why foray into different formats)
The company is under tremendous pressure to breakeven – after all, they have been in business for the last 2 years and its’ time they show some substantial results.
Zapak, when it was launched went aggressive on it’s hiring plan and paid a damn heavy salary packet to Engg and Product guys – guess it’s time to cut cost and get back to money making businesses?

In order to streamline its technology & increase synergies between various teams, Bangalore engineering team is being shifted to Mumbai and most of them have already taken the offer of moving to Mumbai.
There are no layoffs happening at Zapak. Infact Zapak is scaling up its operations and also launching few global portals for which it is actively hiring at all levels.

We have been related to Zapak over the past one year and I believe that this is just another one through the grapevine
All this is a cover from the management of zapak.com. Everyone know that they are making no money. It is confirmed that there are more then 45 employe till now have been forced to sign resign letter and only 6 from bangalore out of those who are left are force to go mumbai or leave. For October gift for other employe they make people sign resign letter.
Blogs is non censor and you cannot put Zapak comment as body in article update till you do not have publish proofs from there management or close down your blog like bangalore office of zapak.
Strong news from employee is about more layof. Rizwan can you tell if you got your payment from zapak for your work ? you will not get because they got no money now ha ha

… all I can say is that from where I stand, I don’t see them in any sort of trouble.
They might be having problems with their business but I think articles like these are plain ‘masala’ and that ashish did an excellent job in putting forth both the sides of the story. This is good journalism….
may be true may be false !! with so many layoffs everywhere…I only wish that things trun around fast for all in the industry and markets get back in action soon.
rajdeep you seem to be either a disgruntled employee or someone who is paid to make some comments like this. i have been dealing with the zapak employees in bangalore, (i am one of their vendors and meet most of them on a daily basis).
also there is already some official statement on this, right here.
Just a quick question, about a trend in Indian companies. It is not specific to Zapak.
If an org makes an employee resign, does that technically count as a layoff ?
Oh yes.
Layoff process works in a fashion that you need to sign a ‘resignation letter’ while you are being fired.
The co. needs to ensure that you get compensated (by 2-3 months of salary..or what’er) so that you do sign the letter.

We did not get any money like that. They say they give us just one month salary which i have not got till now.
All in the mumbai team are politician with big politicians in product and engg who fool the top mgmt continuously to make point how hard they are all working when they are just making fun and parties all the time even all the other people see this in the competition.
The top management are foolish who cannot see what is hapening to all the dhanda and business. All business people should know that lay off happen when business is not coming and no profit is there. So all here should understand that Zapak is not profitting at all and will very sooner close down.

yes zapak fired all of its employees in blore division except 3.Those 3 employees are safe for 2 more months untill all the work is transitioned to mumbai. Mgmt tried to move some employees to kyphy.com (a sister company of zapak in delhi & mumbai) on the same salary without any hike, but nobody agreed as they are not ready to take pain to relocate on same salary and also they are not sure how zapak will do in future.Almost all of them rejected the offer. I dont know why some people are trying to say zapak engg division is still live in bangalore.
sales & marketing team is there , but mgmt is arranging some temporary space in gameplex koramangala to accomodate them.
YOu are absolutely right.Most of these guys work from a dingy office in Koramangala which also seconds as gameplex.I am not sure about one more office on dickinson road.
I think Zapak employees should have known this was going to happen and it is their fault to be so blind.
There is a blog site http://zapak-stupid-failure-site.blogspot.com which states some of the ridiculous things that happen at Zapak and it is interesting to know that it is just another reliance company. I wonder if the party manager is still in the company or has he also been fired due to bad performance or bad parties.

And regarding the site , the fault is with prod & mgmt people…go & see the strength of bangalore technical division…One very good reason is mumbai technical team is scared of losing their jobs after seeing blore team’s performance and played some politics..
Zapak was too bad once, now its a little stable because of blore division ( from sources in zapak mumbai )

zapak started their another round of lay off. Feb 23 2009 they fired another 30 people.
Also zapak’s sister company hyphy closed their Bandra office.
all the employees in zapak got negative feeling.
This is the worst company i ever worked.
After all cost cutting and laid off so many people, Zapak again had layoff round yesterday on february 23. Total of 19 people were made to sign resign letter and promised some money. Again the polticians in product play poltics and influence management to remove others team people.
Management is blinded by poltics and cannot see that if the company is not making money the reason is the website is bad and no people come to play on it and is stupidly made. Ambaniji will loose his money to polticans like these
