Update on “India’s Most Trusted Travel site” poll

800 votes so far!!

Well, like I mentioned earlier, we extended the poll deadline and the poll ends on March 5th.

Few details to keep in mind:

  • Several of the travel companies have called/mailed me asking how to vote/poll etc etc. If you have voted once, you can’t vote again (system tracks IP address).
  • We aren’t counting comments – I guess few OTAs thought commenting = voting.

Again, embedding the poll in the post (the same is also available on the right sidebar of the site.)

    system tracks IP address

Now it does. Initially, it did not. I was able to vote twice :-) No, I was not trying to rig the poll but just testing its robustness.

yep..there were some issues earlier..but now its fixed.

Nope Ashish. It can still be manipulated. I just helped Kayak to go from 2 to 5 votes.

The trick is simple. If you have connection with dynamic IP (like Reliance Data Card, Tata Indicom Data Card Or BSNL Dail up connection), you can just get a new IP by reconnecting it. You should also delete all the private connect(like cookies, cache and all) from your browser.

Once you do these two steps, you are free to vote as many times as you want.

Any remedy for this?? I heard that this is one of the biggest ways of doing click fraud and of sending spam emails

I know. But you need to understand that most of the clickfraud will happen from individual computers..and 800+ # of votes is a good number to match, if somebody really wants to do this.
Most of the OTAs who have written to me are on corporate static IPs – so I am not worried about the gaming part (log shows healthy distinct IPs).

I think Yahoo! Farechase India should also be on the list – http://in.farechase.yahoo.com
