Reliance’s BigTV is launching it’s DTH service on august 15th.
The service will have 32 cinema channels, and will be distributed via 700 distributors across the country.
The company is believed to have placed order for 5 million Set Top Boxes with Korean and Taiwanese vendors to meet its requirements in the first year. The company has already completed trial runs across 2,400 towns and the service is currently available for customers of other Reliance ADAG group companies for Rs 1,000. – source
Quick look at Indian DTH Market
- Two key players – DIshTV and Tata Sky.
- Current subscriber base stands at 6.5-7 million (total TV household in India ~124 mn).
- By 2011, the DTH subscriber base is expected to grow to 25mn.
Currently, Tata Sky and ESPN are fighting a legal battle over pricing issues. Expect more such stuff, as the market is evolving and new entrants like Reliance might play on underpricing strategy which incumbents might fight difficult to catch up with.
Airtel too is launching it’s DTH service in the next 2 months.

I am an ALPHA tester for BIG TV since Feb 2008. Now that BIG TV has been launched, they vshould quickly allocate customer ID and open account for customer to access on their web site. Idealy every customer should be able to access this information on a dedicated channel on TV

I just wanted to share my worst experience with “Reliance BIG TV” DTH Service.
First of all I request everybody not to purchase “Reliance BIG TV” connection.
Well, to start with I have taken BIG TV “Set Top Box” on 31/Aug/2008 “Invoice No. 0101038073″ from one of the Main Web World, Mehdipatnam Branch (Hyderabad).
I think initially as a company while selling the product, web world person has to inform me about all the future requirements from my side, but they have not given any kind of information.
Actually, one Work Order ID is required in order to have installation for BIG TV, that we can get after calling customer care of BIG TV.
But because they have not informed me that I hvae to call Customre care, it was delayed for 2 days, and by chance I called c.care for some other reason on 02/Sep/2008 and got my work order ID.
Even after having my work order ID, I have not recieved any call from the Installation team for Installation, I raised complaint for the same also for so many times, but none of any use.
Almost everyday for more than 1.5 hours I was calling c.care for any kind of solution and spoke to around more than 12 c.care representatives, to name some of them are :- Sheetal, Usha, Bhaven, Ganesh, Priya and so on and escalated the same issue to some of the senior members as well they are:- Rahul and Bhuvneshwari.
Everybody was saying the same thing repeatedly “we are sorry for the inconvinience caused, it will be done asap……etc…..”.
Till today, i.e. 12/SEP/2008 more than 12 days after purcahse of STB, I am still waiting for the installation…..??? and still have no update….
One more intersting thing, I called c.care to ask “is it possible to return the STB because of bad services”, the representative straight forward answered “just go to the web world and return back the STB, they will refund the money”, they people are not even concerned about the problem and reason why I asked to return it back.
Finally, I request everybody again PLZ PLZ PLZ never go for “Reliance BIG TV”, only name is BIG, everything else is small.

as i am a customer of the reliance big tv . i purchased big tv with many expectations but it made me sad ,, because of its performence its not clear as tatasky or dishtv no clearity no digital effects too i complained to the dealer too but no possitive reply yet ,, the engineeres came in so hurry for installation that with in fifteen minutes they fixed the connection but in tatasky they matches the angle towards south direction and makes clearity when cousomer is satisfied then only they goes but reliance big tv oh. no. earlier i was having tatasky , but with very hope i purchased bit tv but of no use.

i am really disappointed with the service you provide through your dealers, last month your sales person came to give an information regarding the big t.v , my wife has told your sales person that we would like to take a connection of your channel, but i want to take a permission of my husband. your sales person told that dont worry if you dont want let us know , so we will refund your cash. later he has taken a cheaque of 1500 rupees. later my wife called me up to inform me regarding the package of big t.v and i refused her to take a channel as my kids are studying in high school and channel my effect thier studies. kindly reply my mail so i can provide you a cell number of your sales person. as i want my cash money back as soon as possible.

I can’t believe that any company can treat a potential customer this badly . I called your customer care toll free no 1800 200 9001 on the 11 th nov and asked for a new connection.
I have called more that 15 times till now , each call takes atleast 15 mins and have alreay escalated it 5 times to customer care leaders.
The only reply i get is ‘sorry ma’am very very sorry we will ensure that somebody will contact you in 24 hours’ im still waiting and no one has ever contacted me.
The last call was yesterday with a so called cc leader – Raji , same assurance that soembody will reach me by 10 pm yesterday ….you can guess the outcome.
Again called today , first time i was aked to call back in 30 mins as she was busy , i did the next call i was again kept on hold for 16 mins and turnd down as no customer care leaders were free….
Now wait a minute , guess why i would be chasing BIG TV so frantically … isnt there another DTH provider in India.Im an existing Tatasky customer and there service is awesome and they were about to install my connection for a second tv at home in 24 hrs !) My bad luck i need a particular channel ‘GOD TV’ which is only available with Big TV.
This is a promise i have made to my old mother who is suffering from cancer and looking to watch this TV to keep her in good spirits.!
In a world of telemarketing were companies are going all the way out to owe customers . Heres Mr Ambani and im sure a 100 more million dollar salaried executives who inspite of a customer literally begging to pay them money and buy thier product …….jus dont bother
