Vodafone is allowing subscribers to pre-register for iPhone via it’s website (or if you are an existing customer, sms iphone to 56789)
This is a good marketing ploy for the following reasons:
- During the registration process, Vodafone is collecting your phone number if you aren’t a vodafone customer.
- Even though iPhone deal is non-exclusive (i.e. even Airtel will sell), Vodafone’s early marketing gives them an edge over it’s biggest rival, i.e. Airtel.
The bad news is that 3G is a distant reality in India (read our complete coverage of Indian Telecom Industry), so many of the features would be just a eye-popping one with no utility.

Not to mention the price is conveniently not mentioned.
Guess I’ll have to crack this one too

What do they mean “pre-register”. Does it mean an obligation to purchase it? Like Raseel has pointed out, they have not even mentioned the price. Moreover, they write “Only select features and services are currently available in India.” Which select features and services?
If this wasn’t on the official website, I would pass this off as a spam site made just for collecting email addresses

Not at all an obligation to purchase the phone. its just an intent collection – they will bomb you with calls later !
if you look at the amt of money they end up paying to acquire customer’s numbers, this is nothing..(that’s why I mentioned it as the first pt.!)
Thats why I say. Just crack it. I don;t wanna use Vodafone anyway. I’m more than happy with Idea.
