DoT is considering a proposal to allocate 3G services to state owned BSNL and MTNL. This will of course start a dog fight between the private players and DoT – especially Airtel, which has done a pilot test of it’s 3G services in Bangalore/Delhi and is waiting for spectrum allocation.
MTNL and BSNL will be provided 5 MHz spectrum each in the 2.1 GHz band. DoT has also assigned frequency for indoor demonstration of 3G services under 2.1 GHz in certain circles.
DoT, which also allocates telecom licences, is currently waiting for the defence services to free up 3G spectrum, which is due towards the end of this year. – BS
Private players have been screaming to allocate spectrum based on subscription numbers, while DoT, it seems is all ready to play pro-govt. and wants to give a headway to BSNL, MTNL to offer high-value 3G services like video calls, music downloads and games.
Given such govt. policies, private players have no option but to form a cartel.

BSNL should reduce cost of its data usage plan under 3g and enhance download speed under 2g. And should also introduce more attractive stv, rcv, and must introduce combo packs.
