ShoppingShouts is a newly launched portal that wants you to shout about your shopping deals/experiences.
According to Nitin Mittal , founder of ShoppingShouts
“Imagine you shop something special and you want to tell the whole world about it but there is no one to share. Wouldn’t that be terrible? How would you feel if there is no one to appreciate your pride, your euphoria and your fantastic bargain? But don’t worry this will never happen now because if you are buying Apple iPhone or Armani perfume or Tommy Hilfiger watch or even a dangler from your local shop…..you can flaunt it through shoppingshouts.com.”
There are two broad spectrum of shopping portals in India:: at one end, you have products like MouthShut where one can look for product reviews and at the other end, there are startups like mKhoj, dealmaadi, dealaajtak, offersforshoppers which basically cover shopping deals in one’s city.
UGC (i.e. user generated content), as per my understanding seems to work only for reviews (and that too in few cases) and not at all for deal sites. Though ShoppingShout brings an interesting aspect of story-telling about one’s shopping experiences, the portal needs to sort of define whether they are a deal site or a story-telling social network.
Unless they do so, I don’t see huge number of repeat visitors for the site as the pain they are addressing is very latent (how many of us really grab a damn cool deal in say, a month’s timeframe? And why not go to a deal site to check out the cheapest deal? Similarly, why not go to a review site to see the reviews by other users?)
That’s my opinion about ShoppingShouts. What’s yours?
Somewhat similar products in this category: MyProdoktSpace (myspace + social shopping), AnyPrice(Trade your used items), Give ‘n’ Take (online bartering).

I mean this in the kindest possible way I can : … BORRRRRRING !!
You were right !! I wouldn’t go to the site if I was paid to !!!
Looks more like blog + shopping experience site
Idea is quite innovative, can be successful if strikes the right audience.
Innovative? What’s innovative about this? One can do the same with any cms tool. Apart from that, the basic funda is why should 1 visit the site? As is pointed out in the review, one can go to the deal sites to get the latest deals (after all, what is the probability that I get the same deal as one of ur user has grabbed??
i guess this site in not about deals,if you go through the intro ,it talks about flaut your shopping.
that is where i said it should strike the right Audience.ppl who like to share wat they have shopped. deals i feel is not the backbone of this site.
and that’s where I see the problem! The problem here is I am not really interested in what Mr. X has bought @ what price (unless he has grabbed the cheapest deal).
My single qn to founders – Is this a full time initiative? Do you believe in this initiative so much that you can give up your job?
@Rajesh, Rajbir : I completely agree. If I shop something why would I want to flaunt it on a website ? I mean, sure, if I get an iPhone, I will call my friends and show it off. I might even mention it on the zillion SN sites that I am already busy talking on. But have another username & password just for this ? I don’t think so !!!
And moreover, why would I care what someone else had bought ? If its someone I know, he’s probably going to rub it on my face when he shows it to me…. (if its anything less , I don’t even wanna know)
It was hard enough digesting the existence of shelfari (www.shelfari.com), but this is a bit too Web2.0 for me
Thanks Ashish for writing a review on Shopping Shouts and lot of thanks to all u wonderful people for giving ur comments.
Few things I would like to mention:
Shopping Shouts is not for Deals or reviews. It is for people to share or flaunt their shopping.
Sameer: Looks more like blog + shopping experience site
Nitin: No, its not just a blog. It has lot of other feature like a shopping shout can be private or public. Wht u see are public shouts. But a user can tell that his/her shout shld be shown only to his/her friends or a group of friends. We have intensionally kept the look and feel of shout as a blog because blog gives freedom to the writer, you can write wht u want. As shopping shouts is not for reviews or deals we don’t want to force user to tell the price or rate the product they bought. We give them freedom to write they want to write about their shopping. Its all abt flaunting ur stuff, u might even buy a watch frm a street shop for 100 bugs nd flaunt it on shopping shouts as a original Tommy watch for 2000 bugs :-;….
Rajbir: “The problem here is I am not really interested in what Mr. X has bought @ what price (unless he has grabbed the cheapest deal).”
Nitin: On SN website most of the people doesn’t go to send scrap, message to their friends. They just go to check out wht their friends are doing, wht photos they have, wht video they etc…You may not like to see others shopping and I respect ur view but I am sure their are some people who would like to know wht people are buying, wht is the in thing, wht people like. Try taking to ur gf or wife or sister or some of the girls u know abt this. I am sure at least 5/10 will say they would like to see wht people are buying.
Rahbir: My single qn to founders – Is this a full time initiative? Do you believe in this initiative so much that you can give up your job?
… Its not a full time initiative. My wife is a shopping freak (ya… its tough for me guys :-;….), she suggested this idea to me. I kind of like the idea. That time I was learning Ruby on Rails, so I started shopping shouts to test my skill on RoR. But I believe this idea, this idea can be successful, it just need right kind of marketing. In future I might leave my job for this idea.
Nitin: Good Question
