MoneySaver – Discount Coupons for your Shopping Soul

MoneySaver is a Delhi based startup that offers discount coupons in categories like Lifestyle, Retail, Dining, Travel & Entertainment etc.   moneysaver

In order to avail MoneySaver’s offers, one needs to buy the copy of coupon book (costs Rs. 399/). Each MoneySaver book comes with a registration card. You need to scratch the card and SMS registration code to 09870 900 900. Your mobile phone gets registered and you are all set to receive shopping discounts/coupons.

MoneySaver has tied up with local merchants (currently available in NCR only) and wherever you see "We accept MoneySaver" sticker, you can sms the brand keyword and MoneySaver will send you the offer coupon code.

Apart from consumers, MoneySaver is also targeting

Fundraisers as well as Corporates. Corporates can distribute MoneySaver coupons as part of employee benefit programme and Fundraisers can use this as a tool to distribute coupons to supporter of the cause.

What’s really interesting about MoneySaver is that they are collecting their own deal and not really aggregating (unlike the typical web2.0 startups!). Having said that, what’s not interesting is the following:

  • Why coupon book? – If it’s all about the scratch card and mobile registration, there are several other ways one can distribute that. And isn’t book distribution process quite lengthier, as most of the offers have validity timestamp and I presume book coupons will lose their value after a certain point (the site says 7 months)?
  • Discount % - I just checked their BookMyShow discount and interestingly, I get a better offer from the BookMyShow site!

Point I am trying to make is that MoneySaver can get away with book coupon distribution and ease out the process. As far as shopping is concerned, users have no loyalty to any brand or coupon service, and the fight is to have a presence "right there" when the user is making that purchase.

Infact, most of the discounts that a typical users avails are not the ones with max. discount percentage, but are the ones that are easily available – and MoneySaver is building a usage barrier by expecting users to buy the book.

There are other startups in this domain – OffersForShoppers and the recently launched open2save, that have an easier way of distributing the discount coupons.

What’s your take on MoneySaver?

Where do I get the Rs.150 gift voucher on bookmyshow without buying MoneySaver? I can’t seem to find it.

    3. rajesh says:

buddy u get the entire ticket free if u purchase thru’ icici or deutche :)

buy 1 get 1 free offer you see

    4. Ajay Gupta says:

ICICI is a buy 1 get 1, not a free movie ticket. Deutsche doesnt want to give me a card it seems!

I don’t think moneysaver requires you to have a specific card to get the free movie ticket…so its definitely no strings attached…now, if only these guys were in bangalore ;)

      cool product I would say

    5. ashish says:

@Ajay and others – Point behind raising comparative pricing was not to really say moneysaver has lesser discounts et al (btw, if icici is giving 1 free with 1 buy, isn’t that a good option?)

Anyways, the qn. I have raised is for moneysaver team to really understand that ppl dont care about brand loyalty etc, and one needs to have a presence – RIGHT at the point of sale.

Having a book to buy the card is somehow an alien concept to me!
      but that’s just me!

    6. Ajay Gupta says:

“Having a book to buy the card is somehow an alien concept to me!”…what does that mean?

I thought you buy the book and get the card with it…

to be completely honest, these mobile or online coupons are totally alien to me…I actually like the fact that there is something in front of me that I can flip and take a coupon out of and use…but then again…as Ashish said…its probably just me :)

    7. Ashish says:

Ajay – I meant the opp., i.e. Buying a book to get the card :)
Anyways, these are user feedbacks and should be taken as-is.

Since so many people are interested in saving a few dollars these days (especially due to high summer gas prices), WearIt.com is releasing a new coupon site (http://www.wearit.com/coupons) that is 100% focused on coupons from leading fashion and lifestyle companies. I know that this can help out more than a few people; check it out – wearit.com/coupons.

MoneySaver is totally a bullshit. I am in delhi and since past 2 weeks I am constantly trying to book movie tickets by Bookmyshow.com. I contacted the customer service of Bookmyshow and they said there is some technical problem and it will get fixed soon. What is a kind of technical problem that can not be fixed in two weeks. Actually the problem is that bookmyshow site does not support the WinPin provided by MoneySaver.

My 400 INR is now in Dustbin.

Please beware of these money sukkers.
