BrandAdda – Share your Opinion on Brands/Consumer Services

November 28, 2008

Want to share feedbacks on brands (whether you hate them or love their services)? Got some feature requests/suggestions?

That’s precisely BrandAdda does it for you – it’s a newly launched service that builds communities around brands.

For instance, one can become a fan of the brand, vote for it, rate/review and ask questions/answers others questions.

Business is rapidly becoming susceptible to changes anywhere on the globe. Businesses are faced with a fast changing landscape, and there has never been a better time to truly Connect with their Consumers, and Partner with them to figure out how to best deal with the changes. The need for Businesses to tap into the insights and creativity of people beyond their company’s borders is undeniable. BrandAdda is our answer to these problems, by creating a win-win environment for Consumers and Companies. – BrandAdda

One can also create their own branded pages and others can rate/review (custom attributes allowed) them (have created pluGGd.in page – so let us know whether you love/hate us).

BrandAdda can serve as a great tool for marketers and brand managers to track the community pulse; and I believe, monetization will be via the branded channels.

Couple of feedback on the product:

  • The current interface is way too dull to attract opinions/generate discussions.
  • How about a FB/Open Social App? Brands range from lifestyle to utilities – so instead of building communities on their own, why not tap the existing communities?

What’s your opinion on BrandAdda?

BrandAdda is started by Tej Arora (ex-Yahoo) and is being advised by Dr. Srinivasan, CTO of Kosmix.

how is this diff from mouthshut?
while i liked the overall idea, it’d be great if they have real time/latest news on these brands.

  3. Tej on November 28, 2008 at 1:59 pm

    Thanks Nikhil.

The difference between BrandAdda and product review sites such as MouthShut has been addressed in the FAQ (brandadda.com/faq). In
a nutshell, BrandAdda is a self-expression site for consumers, and aims to promote active dialogue between consumes & companies.

Totally agree with the real-time news part…. its on the list.

  4. balachandar on November 28, 2008 at 4:46 pm

    hey Tej,

BrandAdda is more like mouthshut in functionality and stuff. only difference is i see the UI. even mouthshut is also a self expression site for consumers.

  5. Tej on November 28, 2008 at 5:33 pm

    one fundamental difference:
brandadda provides for active collaboration between companies and consumers. For example:
    - can a company ask consumers a question on epinions or mouthshut? NO
    - can a company do pre-testing or post-testing of a TV ad on epinions or mouthshut?. NO.

    one major difference:
range of tools available on brandadda: polls, ratings, q&a, discussion forums, promotions, ads, polls on ads, photos, videos, doodles, ambassadors..

Many people do conclude on first glance that BrandAdda is a “product review” site similar to epinions or mouthshut… perhaps BrandAdda needs to improve its messaging.

    Thanks for your feedback Balachandar.

      thank you tej for responding.

tell me one thing. how many companies are there that is willing to ask consumers online? i assume that they have some thing called marketing research team. they would do that right. is brand adda trying to be like that?

the tools u have mentioned are all common on the Internet. what is that i cannot get from other sites like mouthshut, i can get it from brand adda as a consumer? is it maininly for consumer or companies?

      • Tej on December 1, 2008 at 8:02 pm

        Hi Balachandar

There are not too many companies that are interacting with consumers online today, but we believe that any company that does not significantly involve consumers in a dialogue will be less competitive in a world where consumers are becoming more and more influential. There are some symptoms of this change. See mystarbucksidea.com. There are also countless articles on the web about Social media marketing.

The goal of Marketing is to meet the needs of Consumers. Traditional marketing has involved the consumer only peripherally. That will not work in the future.

BrandAdda is for both Companies & Consumers – that is the only way today’s monologue marketing can turn into dialogue marketing.

Market Research – that you identified – is one way that Companies can learn from consumers, to become better. There are other ways. We have to be sensitive to what works and what doesn’t work and refine the strategy as we go along.

Yes, you can find each of the tools somewhere on the internet. But tools combined with a specific context & purpose is a different story. In other words, you can find the ingredients of BrandAdda all over the internet, but its the recipe that counts, and we sincerely hope the recipe creates something tasty for the audience – if not, we’re ready to try new recipes :) .

        thanks!.

          Hi Tej,
Thanks for the explanation dude. i wasn’t clear initially. but your sound response make me feel good about the thing you were doing. all the best for your current recipe. make it much more tastier for those who want to taste it.

          keep in touch.

forgive me if my question in some way hurts you.

          - bala

Not at all Bala… Critical questions & comments are good for us… thanks.

How about http://getsatisfaction.com/? :) Although the service is pitched differently and has more tools, the website seems inspired by them. Does the extra tools available on brandadda give any added value on the basic model of getsatisfaction?

  7. Tej on November 29, 2008 at 8:55 am

    Hi Abhay

BrandAdda is closer to getsatisfaction that it is to epinions / mouthshut. Whether BrandAdda is inspired by getsatisfaction or not is a matter of speculation – we know it is not, but that won’t stop the speculation anyway. Multiple people having similar ideas is not that uncommon..

Facebook brand/product pages are perhaps the closest overall.

We have addressed these questions in our faq (brandadda.com/faq).

Back to your question about getsatisfaction. What is great about them is that they have a singular value proposition to consumers and to companies. Customer service is the core value to both. With BrandAdda, we experimented with coming out with the other extreme – provide a wider set of value propositions to both. That may or may not be a good thing. We’ll find out in the course of time. We do have another effort going on – around a product that provides a singular value proposition to consumers and companies (no, it isn’t customer service :) ). We’re a tiny team and unfortunately that stretches out the release timeline. Anyone interested in joining us? :) .

    thanks

    Tej

This is really cool!!…I visited their site here: http://brandadda.com/bh/lays#tabs–brand_home-2 and I got to see tweets that were posted 38 years 48 weeks ago!!..great ;P

  11. Tej on November 30, 2008 at 11:51 am

We’re looking into whether we received a bad timestamp from twitter itself or whether there is a bug in our code..
We’ve cleared the tweet cache and the timestamps look fine now.
    Thanks for the report.

  12. Ekalavya on November 30, 2008 at 1:03 pm

@ Tej: You keep referring to your faq page….are you aware than 99% of the people who visit your site won’t really be checking out you FAQ page to find out how you are different from a mouthshut etc..

  13. Tej on November 30, 2008 at 1:20 pm

    point taken :)

  14. Samir on December 4, 2008 at 12:14 pm

Mouthshut is a piece of crap which indulges in all sorts of cheap gimmicks to stay afloat. I hope Brandadda has a better future. I won’t be surprised if half the commentators above are Mouthshut employees themselves!

  15. balachandar on December 4, 2008 at 5:59 pm

    samir,

i am not an employee of mouthshut. i guess u r an employee of brandadda ….
