Opera to support Google Gears

Opera today announced that it will support Google gears in the upcoming version of desktop as well as mobile browser.

This is surely a win for Google Gears (since Opera leads the mobile browser world) and reinforces Google’s strategy of browser being the next OS.

Does Microsoft believes in browser story? Well, they seem to be focus more on desktop-to-online collab, and somehow their overall online-office strategy seems confused (they want to build online version of every office suite!).

What do you think?

Also check out Yahoo’s browserplus – an awesome service that updates and adds new services on the fly without a browser restart or even reloading the page.

I have used Opera. It is better than the normal internet browser which is available on the mobile phone. I saw my account in edeskonline. It showed up perfectly. It allows me to make phone calls and send SMS from my in-the-cloud site : edeskonline

I don’t think that the browser will be the next os jump like from txt to GUI, just because of the fact that for an Internet browser to work, you need to have the internet, and that costs money which not everyone has. Untill the internet is totally free (that means without restrictions like the FFC hopes to do with the free wireless network they want to make) the browser will remain the tool of an os and not be one.
