Mobisy has launched Newstop application, a downloadable Mobile application which aggregates news from different sources and delivers it right to the main screen of your Mobile phone.

The newstop application is built on top of Mobitop platform and the killer feature is the ‘ticker’ which scrolls live news (or twitter updates) on the main screen of your phone (the only hitch is that it works only with S60 3rd edition handsets)
What’s your take on Newstop? Will you use it?

Guys
Why jst S60? Why not S40? How many Indians are on S60?
Hi Jayant
This application is based on our platform called ‘Mobitop’. Mobitop helps developers integrate web content/services with mobile native content/services. For example in newstop application, rss feed of web is getting displayed in phones idle screen on ticker via mobitop. There are many use cases like integrating phones location, PIM data, Camera, filesystem, etc with web services.
First version of mobitop was built on S60 3rd edition phones, as there are many indian users using GPRS over S60 phones. Having said that, we are not limiting our selves to S60 only. We internally have ported mobitop for Windows Mobile, iPhone, Nokia S40 and other J2me compatible phones(With J2me, since its sand boxed, we might not be able to use powerful devices features like ticker). So its just matter of time, we will come up with newstop version for other phones too.
Surely, we have taken your comment as feedback.

Gurpreet

First let me say why S60 .. being a smart phone it allows the kind of functionality we need to provide to user.
Idea is to create value first (like ticker) and later downgrade gracefully to phones like S40 which we will do in due course of time.
S60 is one of the most used phone platforms in India. Admob metrics mention N73,N95 as one of the top phones used in India.
To drive my point home , If you wanna see something cool, just head to http://newstop.mobisy.com/newstop_map.php , it will show current Indian newstop users in a map ..:-) .
sharma ji, agar samajh mein nahi aaya, to main samjhata hun ..
In logon ne pehle ek tandoor ki dukan kholi (mobitop). Tandoor to inka bika nahi! to ab dhaba kholkar usi tandoor per rotiyan banaye jaa rahe hain – tandoor saath mein free!!
Khaoge??

Hi Kishare,
Apologies for the problem you faced. Can you please drop an e-mail to newstop@mobisy.com with some details of the issue? Would be glad to help.
Warm Regards,
Lalit.
p.s. I hope you have GPRS activated on your phone.
Now tell me, how is MobiTop or your ZYMO way different from Nokia’s new initiative with Web Runtime Environment [WRT], S60 3rd edition onwards phones would be supported with WIDSETS via WRT , so its powerful medium to use all there inbuilt working features than the mobitop, how different is mobitop from it?
and also, any chances where me as a developer could test your platform, would you give it as open source medium anytime?? or its a licensing model….
I prefer bundling this on to Open Source strategy
There are quite a few differences but the most imprortant one is of approach, WRT Widgets are static and need symbian signing(you cannot change the logic /look and feel of the widget once it is downloaded to the handset) while Mobitop applications are completely dynamic and hence more suitable for Mobile application publishers. If you want to try out Mobitop/Zmo do drop a mail to zmo@mobisy.com with your intentions , we will surely provide you a trial version.
