Microsoft launched BizSpark, a global program designed to help accelerate the succ

Eligibility Criteria
Your Startup:
- Is in the business of software development
- Is privately held
- Has been in business for less than 3 years, and
- Has less than US $1 million in annual revenue
If you are a startup enrolled with MS’s BizSpark, we would like to hear your views.
[Thanks Sudeep for the info]

It is extremely simple to enroll. I just got my startup registered. You get access to a plethora of Microsoft products for free. They are also extremely helpful and actually followup with you to make sure if you have registered properly. Go for it.

Why the hell only software businesses?
Other businesses don’t need softwares to run their daily operations?
Microsoft wants to act as a big brother? But a biased one? Why?
Aniruddh – its not abt s/w business, but tell me why would an offline biz need MS’s support (of startupzone)?
This program s mainly for startups in tech (esp. internet) sector
Dude,an offline business CAN(and often does) have an online presence!
Furthermore, the discussion was about s/w or non-s/w business and not about web or non-web business ! You probably got confused in web-enabled businesses and s/w businesses.
Web was just an e.g. – MS’s startupzone is first meant for startups who are in s/w tech business – so that they can leverage MS’s infra/products/service and get started.
Offline business needing an online presence will go via service partners (like implementing ecomm) – now. that’s not a problem MS should solve in the first place.

Microsoft wants to keep the leading share for dev tools and hence this promotion…otherwise anybody can download open source tools. It makes sense to extend this to non-s/w businesses because as those businesses grow they could afford to pay for the software…else those companies may as well get started on open source. Me as a developer is comfortable with both MS and Opensource tools and always recommend Opensource to clients primarily because of cost of ownership.
