MyProdoktSpace: Social Shopping portal for India

MyProdoktSpace is newly launched social shopping network, and is attempting to use people’s social network and help them in making valid buying decision.

Through MyProdoktSpace, you can connect with your friends and

  • Discover, share new products
  • Rate various products
  • Recommend products to your friends
  • Scribble your friend about new products deals etc…

One can add/review products, create product network, and share one’s wishlist using widgets.

Feature wise, MyProdoktSpace has all the elements of a social network (even their name has a “myspace” in it!) but all configured to a vertical niche (i.e. online shopping), which is a sunrise industry.

I liked the overall concept, but do see a huge adoption challenge for the product (as in : why create/join another social network?).
As far as their revenue model is concerned, they should think of lead generation for other shopping portals.

I believe, Orkut’s API will be a boon to such social network-based niche sites. What do you think?

Give MyProductSpace a dekho and do share your comments.

Its a good concept, and they would really be on a next level if SN sites open up there 3rd party API’s and would be a major hit amongst the younger generation.

they could very well be head on with MouthShut and its been executed very well.

But i see on the initial run there are too many Ad spaces, which takes it on the lower side, but never mind, I could only sense the huge potential the consumer product market can bring in to it…..

      KILLER STARTUP: http://www.giventake.in

Givetake.in is an online bartering site. Just like in the old days, you can barter your old shirts and shiny records for other people’s old shirts and shiny records. Or anything, for that matter. The site has categories for practically every consumer good, whether it be antiques, games, electronics or services. To start bartering you’ll need to register first. Next use the search box to find exactly what you’re looking for (or browse by category). Once you’ve found that perfect something, connect with the person who’s got your product and make an exchange. You’ll have to work out the exact terms of the deal, and figure out whether a boot is warranted or whether you can arrange something fancy where A helps B in return for getting C product X and so on. Get creative, it can save you some cash and perhaps make you a friend or two. There are no fees involved to trade your stuff or for registering.

      In their own words

“Giventake.in is the Web’s premier free, full-service bartering site. Unlike other similar bartering destinations, Giventake.in is the only one that provides a comprehensive range of categories that truly allows members to trade anything they have for anything they want, be it a product, a service or even cold, hard cash.

Oh, and did we mention it’s free? That’s right. No processing fees. No hidden charges. No kidding!”

Why it might be a killer

Giventake has come up with a new twist on a classic idea: bartering. It’s been in effect for ages, but there hasn’t really been a heavy push on trading in recent times. With Giventake you can save some cash and get something you really like. Better for the planet than buying new too.

      Some questions though

Will they add user ratings? As usual this site really needs some users to start bartering otherwise, it can’t go far. How’s it going to attract barterers?

It is really sad that MyProdoktSpace has shut shop so soon. I actually wanted to redeem my points i earned there for a t-shirt. i had actually placed a request, initially they said since it is out of stock they will get it directly from the dealer and get it to me but to no avail. even after sending two to three emails, no response from their side. I guess they have shut shop. This is what has been happening with indian startups who open up with much fanfare but soon shut shop without even taking a single step!
