Geek Calendar- shipped with bugs

Way back in the month of July 2006, entire blogosphere was buzzing with the news of *female-geek* calendars. (Look here).

Any idea what’s currently happening with those geeky calendars?

Well, while one of the site has shut down;the other received 3.5 million hits in a day – but the latest update is quite a shame on the entire geek community (males included).

The calendar was full of bugs.

..the 15-month calendar had errors in October 2006, with the month starting on Saturday not Sunday, and May 2007 – which starts on a Tuesday not Monday as it should.

“We’ve got red rose embarrassed faces.”

I am just wondering whether these guys forgot to do a QA testing? Will they go for a ‘patch release’ now? :-)

Well, once a geek you will always stay a geek – and will always ship bugs!!

What says fellas?

Hello just noticed your blog – I’m the innovator of the Screen Goddess IT Calendar – what’s happened – well LOTS of misunderstanding fuleeled by media stories, Lots of over achieving soft objectives of generating healthy debate but we’ve failed to achieve the hard objective of raising profits for not for profit groups to run role modelling, career expos, mentoring etc programs. We’ve had some fairly great soft objectives occur eg: • some strategic schools have written the calendar and its models into the ICT curriculum for 2007, where interviews, meetings and internet chats with the models are included for the school children. WHY? Well in the words of one teacher – When I showed my year 12 class the calendar their response was “They don’t look like geeks!” and I thought “Wow we need to move with this!”.
      • there are women across Australia who as a direct result of the calendar have now been linked together, which has already resulted in some positive career choices – one woman even moved from a regional area and a non technology job to Sydney and the commencement of a technology career.
      • coverage surrounding the calendar resulted in teenage girl publications picking up the story and promoting careers in IT to young girls – not only in Australia but a major European teenage girl magazine (For You) as well.
      • ICT Researchers are now beginning to quote the calendar at conferences and paper reviews as a unique way to deal with a long term issue and one that is beginning to show results.
      • Universities and schools have already begun using calendar images as part of ‘recruitment’ and career days – we have posters available on loan and/or provide high resolution poster for printing (free of charge).
STILL waiting for geeks to enter the great competitions fab prizes eg: TV, DVD, iPod, iPod accessories, broadband cards, laptop tekskins, wireless equipment, professional travel bags, wine, movie tickets etc.

Dive in spot the hidden code in the calendar, locate and name all the placed and hidden techology in each picture….we’re waiting for winners to clean up the prizes….

Sonja! Wow – you guys are definitely doing a great job!
I agree with you that lots of misunderstanding has been fueled by media (and of course blogosphere too!!).
I must say that you have taken a damn good initiative – and well, there will be roadblocks (and bad coverage), but even if you guys (oops! Girls) are able to change the perception about geeky women (which you are able to – to a good extent), in 1 part of the world geography (to start off), you will ‘date’ success!!

      - All the very best.
