Point10 Solutions – All things Engineering Students

It’s always good to see interesting ideas that can help engg. students find their potential and potentially change the way these students take their courses.

Points10 is Ahmedabad based startup that is working on four projects (all related to engg. students):

Books10.org:

Platform where students can easily find the books that they require and also sell their old books to other students. The startup plans to connect all engineering colleges in Gujarat.

Projects10.Org:

The idea behind this initiative is to invite students to do interesting projects with the startup – be it preparing market research or software applications.

Education10.org

This will be education news portal dedicated to students in Gujarat and will profile students who are doing some innovative work. Students would be appointed Citizen Journalists for this website and they will update on the day-to-day stories from their respective colleges/university.

Jobs10.org:

This portal would provide the platform for the students who would like to take up innovative projects/part time work during their studies. This will help students to earn something during their studies to meet their educational expenses.

Four startup ideas from a startup! While I would love to see an initiative like this see major success, my real doubt lies in a startup trying to do too many things.

Instead, they should take 1 project – work on it for 6 months, figure out ways to create self-sustenance and in the process, build the network of colleges which can be the hub to distribute other products.

What’s your take?

Yepp! Reminds me of our initial efforts with GIN – Good Indian Network for Schools. Biggest lesson learnt – Focus on one and only one thing. One success paves the way for future initiatives, otherwise it is all confusion and frustration.

    2. Thanks for your comments. As you rightly said we really need to focus on 1 project only and try to build an Eco-System around it for other projects. Initially we are focusing on Books10 project only, here we are building an amazing amount of goodwill among all sections of our society which will help us for our future projects.

Once again thanks for your valuable feedback.

Very neat concept – frankly, if you can execute 50% of what you have laid down here – you have a winner.

Are you guys looking for funding?

    4. Hi Sonia,

Yes, we are looking for the strategic partners for our projects.

    5. Here we are trying to complete the entire story…as we say Connecting the dots !!!

Steve gets admission into B.E. (IT) into P10 University.

He needs Guidance on how to go about and Syllabus Books (Including reference Books).

He logs into the BOOKS10.org to find out if someone is donating the books or not. He finds out that donated books/fund for Books have been allocated to other students.

Still he finds out that the books that he needs have been with his Seniors Mark and James. So he contacts them for Books. Mark and James are already the Members of Point10 Student Chapter in P10 University. So they gave him the BOOKS as per the convenient price for both the parties and at the same time gives invaluable suggestions on how to go about his studies.

Also on Books10.org, Steve finds that there are some Mentors working in MNCs who are willing to help students as and when required. He feels much more comfortable now to know that there so many people around him who would help/support/guide him as and when required.

Now Steve settles down with his studies. But now he has a problem on selecting the right Semester project which is there in the curriculum. Ideally he want to do the project which can benefit him in future, more of a industry specific project which has the potential to become a PRODUCT.

Steve logs into the PROJECTS10.org, here he comes to know what the projects his seniors have done are and resources from where he can get the help for his future project. Here he comes across a project “School Management System” which was developed by Anthony who’s now working for Microsoft. Steve likes the project wants to do something related to “School Management system”. He can see Anthony’s contact information. He contacts Anthony to find out what sort of ground work he did for this projects, which are the places he visited, what tools he used etc. Anthony guides him about the project and suggests him to take the project of Anthony and improve project to take it to the next level. Steve works very hard for the project with guidance from Anthony and other Mentors. He makes small prototype which can actually be used in School. Steve successfully implements the “School Management System” in “Nalanda Vidyalaya”, which would’ve the funds to buy software’s from companies. By this way Steve gets some amazing Industry Experience and at the same time gives something back to the society.

Steve reads newspapers quite regularly. He gets to know about the project done by Michael (M University Student) which sounds very cool but doesn’t have any real-life implication. He feels disheartened that not many people are recognizing his good work.

Steve logs into the EDUCATION10.org, he gets interviewed by Sam (another student from P10 University, member of Point10 Student Chapter). Next day he gets profiled in Education10.org for doing an amazing work for his project “School Management System” and also the comments from the Principal of “Nalanda Vidyalaya” were mentioned.

Steve is trying to find out the ways from where he can earn something to cope with his expenses.

Steve logs into the JOBS10.org, he finds out that there are certain companies who are in the Business of Education looking for the people who can work for 3-4 hours daily. Steve has already learned a bit about the tricks of this trade, it becomes very easy for him to impress the Interviewer and gets selected. Now he’s able to earn something to reduce the burden for his parents. At the same time he gets some solid expertise.

Kevin, Steve’s classmate, gets selected by a company who wants to hire some intelligent students for part-time for the Market Research and Awareness campaign before their New Product Launch. Kevin has a desire to get into the any of the Foresters, Gartner’s of the world. He’s getting the right experience and also able to earn something.

Also students can easily find the list of all the companies in Gujarat and their HR contacts. They also get familiar with the companies. Check: http://www.jobs10project.blogspot.com

Now they don’t have to dependant on Campus interviews, now they are competent enough to take on sharks of the industry.

Our Business10.org project is also much more exciting. Where we are trying to provide the Business Consulting to SMEs.

All above projects are connected to each other. Ours is not the online model….its going to be a HUGE offline model…

      Thanks and best regards,

      Jatin Chaudhary…
