Delhi based startup, CoCubes is brainchild of two IIT B grads, Harpreet and Vibhor.![]()
The idea behind CoCubes is to build a scalable platform that enables colleges and companies to get online and get started with campus recruitment, without burning too much of ca$h.
CoCubes partners with college campuses, signs MoU with the placement department and brings the placement part online. Companies pay for access to college/student details, for posting job descriptions to which students can apply.
The enablement of entire placement process helps companies in making informed choices and speeds up the entire recruitment process.
Overall, this model seems very promising and CoCubes is looking at the entire fresher recruitment industry with a 360 degree view, instead of building just another portal for campus qns etc.
Having said that, they have one big competitor – careernet (I know them since the inception days) which has a strong presence across all the engg. colleges and is more offline driven.
In my opinion, this model may not be adopted by the top tier engg./mba colleges (since there is a demand-supply equation that doesn’t align to the very basic offering of CoCubes), but can be a boon to tier-2 and 3 colleges.
What’s your opinion?
CoCubes’s future plans includes expansion to MBA institutes too.

Hmmmm…..
We did almost a year of research on this concept. We wanted to start this portal on campus(….).com with tag line “Virtual Campus Recruitment”.
The basic findings of our research (Only for South India):
-> There are already established govt. agencies which are doing similar work on a large scale. Eg: JKC program by AP govt. which has more than 120 companies and 450 colleges registered under the program(in 2006)
-> Not much value can be provided with online perspective. I mean..we didnot find enough VAS that can be provided online. May be ..an online testing module
-> Huge offline presence required.
-> Huge marketing & sales force required.
-> Most of the Eng. Colleges (90% +) already have strong placement agencies which are successful in getting handful of companies even to remote places. Eg: CREC of Ganapavaram (remote place in AP) has got 14 IT companies and 8 non-IT companies for its first batch in 2006.
-> Students are willing to pay up to 3 months of salary if they get a job
-> Companies are looking at transferring their training programs on to college campuses there by reducing the cost & time to train these people on company’s campus
-> Companies are willing to pay premium if they are provided with bulk recruitment options.
Hence..we think this is more an offline business rather than an online business and require huge investment…!!!
I am not too sure of this company’s investment plans. But all the best to these guys.
Srini, thanks for your reply. I test positive on most of your findings and they provide the reason for an online platform to exist. Everybody is spending a lot of money due to information asymmetry and operational inefficiency which can only be removed by going online. We have mapped an entire 1.5 years of process online providing companies with reach, operational efficiency and branding.
Ashish, a few additions to what you have written. Careernet is not a direct competitor, they are in the offline assessment space along with Merittrac, elitmus etc. Plus we have signed MoU’s in top 10 engineering colleges of country because of the inherent efficiency our system brings in a college’s placement system.
@Harpreet, I am not too sure if your definition of assessment is correct. I mean, assessment has to result in some tangible metrics that can help make a finer decision making. It is not just about administering an exam online. Have you ever wondered why CAT did not go online in 2008 despite of having said so earlier? BTW I came across this article in economic times (http://news.google.com/news?q=elitmus). It makes me believe that they are one company talking about assessment in the true sense.
the correct link to economic times article is

@Harpreet
I just get a blank white space in the middle of the website in IE8 beta..
while it works fine in firefox 2
I think that this portal can really help colleges in saving their 1000′s of valuable time of students as well as college authority. Moreover, I think Companies would also love to visit colleges who embrace technology.
Technology has entered into every field these days, campus recruitment is no exception. Cocubes has automated the campus recruitment process with the help of technology. Cocubes is the future of campus recruitment.
I have about concluded that wealth is a state of mind, and that anyone can acquire a wealthy state of mind by thinking rich thoughts.
I believe that CoCubes is a rich thought.
All the best.
Sounds interesting, so who has funded cocubes?
I like the concept Cocubes hold and truly believe that it will solve a major drawback in colleges of India. Going online is what is most important with the growing technology to avoid manually done paper work creating heaps in colleges and unnecessary waste of time and energy. Also companies will be enlightened with a perfect choice of candidature.
About the funding part, I think “One who works hard and sincerely towards a good cause is rewarded at the right time” and looks like that’s what the CoCubes guys are doing.
Some how i feel more than having the campus process online, the problem here is finding and judging good talent. Thats why elitmus has been successful and now NAC TEST has come. But Harpreet has done aggressive marketing and results look great. wish you all the best.
elitmus is best of all people.
I am not saying this because i got a job through them in October but because when it comes to evaluation and judging talent, no one can compare elitmus.
No other testing body can match their standards.
They are as good as CAT, GRE or GMAT for that matter.
They dont give stupid questions in test, they give basic conceptual question.
I secured 99 percentile in their ph test.
I also gave CAT this year and got calls from IIM C and IIM L.
cocubes is a very good website…it provides gud opportunities for placement.I got placed through this site…
