Ahmedabad based startup, Lords Automotive has developed a LPG kit for 2-wheelers and is looking for angel investors for their initiative (funding of around ~150K USD).

Few features of the LPG kit:

  • Worlds’ first L.P.G kit for 2 wheelers; designed as per U.N. regulations.
  • Dual fuel operation i.e. runs on L.P.G/Petrol.
  • Nearly 50% savings in fuel cost.
  • 34% reduction in oxides of nitrogen, 15% reduction in carbon dioxides
  • Virtually zero evaporative emissions of hydrocarbons
  • Carbon Monoxide 50 – 60% reduction in tailpipe emissions
  • Smog 30 – 40% reduction in exhaust emissions
  • Well researched, legal approvals of components.

The product has been tested and the team will soon approach A.R.A.I (Automotive Research Association of India) for commercial license.

As far as the market size is concerned, India represents one of the largest two-wheeler markets in the world, with an estimated size of 5.4 million units a year and growing approximately @ 12% y-o-y.

    Dear Mr.Kantibhai,

The other manufacturers claiming to have RTO approved kits are more or less bluffing. may be they are in the process but none have been approved so far. As far as my kit is concerned i am in the process of getting the cocerned approvals so i just can't promise you a fixed time of the launch.

    Regards.

  • Bindiya
    Hi,
Please let me know the email id of rajesh nair ( the founder of Lords Automotive) It is urgent
  • rajesh nair.
    Hi Dipen,

It was really interesting to know that you believe in genuine products but to be frank i cant promise you any stipulated time frame about the approval of the kit since it has to undergo govt. approval. We are already working on it but cant promise you a fixed time limit.

One suggestion don't you even think of buying those illegal kits, i am not saying this from business rivalry point of view but your life is worth more than Rs.4000 kit since those kits doesn't have any safety features & hence you are always on the hooks of danger. Your life is much more precious than the fuel economy.

Since our kit is being tested for global standards its being tested extra hard for the indian conditions.

    Hope to launch it soon.

    Best Regards,

    Rajesh Nair.
  • dipen
    Hi, Rajesh

Did you get the approval or not ..

If not approximately by what time you are expecting it to be approved?

Since today gov has hiked Rs 5/L in petrol and I was searching for some alternatives and I came across some illegal -- not approved by RTO kits on the net for around 4000 bucks. which cuts the fuels charges by 60% for bikes.

So even if I have to wait a little more for legal kit then cheap illegal one, I would like to wait..but at the same time, the promise should not be like the politicians.....

    Dear Sir,

NO, the kit is not approved anywhere in the country, but we are looking for investors to fund us for this project to get the necessary approval. Once we get the approval we can sell it across the world as the approval process is of global standard.

    Regards,

    Rajesh Nair.

    Dear Sir,

As on today there is no L.P.G kit available for Honda unicorn anywhere across the country.
  • panneerselvam
    sir,
in chennai where i can get LPG kit for my honda unicorn bike.
is it good to use LPG in bikes?
  • rajesh nair
Yes ! i agree with you shivaas, there has been lots of news spreading across these days about LPG cars catching flames and lots of smell coming from them but thats absolutely due to negligence of timely service of the lpg kit & generally taxis runing on lpg & cng have shown up with such cases of fire & damage as they replace the required servicable sapers with the cheap & duplicate one; besides that many cars fit illegal kits & fill domestic lpg rather than auto lpg.

As far as safety factors of lpg kit designed by Lords Automotives for two wheelers are concerned it has been designed as per U.N (United Nations) safety code i.e. ( ECE -R-67) which is an international safety code for LPG kits to be fitted in automobiles, & also complies with safety codes, regulation & standards defined by Ministry of surface transport Gov. of India. The kit has undergone rigrous field trials & has been found to be working satisfactorily.

As far as cng is concerned its not a fesiable option for two wheelers, as the kit for cng is very bulky offers less storage capacity of gas & doubly expensive compared to lpg & expensive spares.
  • What are the safety implications of this ? I've heard of lots of LPG cars catching flames and lots of smell also coming from them.

Also, Isn't CNG a safer option that LPG ??
Any inputs on the above would be really appreciated ashish.

    Thanks for the informative post..
  • Hey Raseel
This is part of my new year resolution - i.e. go beyond Internet/Mobile startups and focus more on technology startups.
It took me few months and a year to realize that 'real tech' is beyond the world of Internet & Mobile (atleast in India!:)

Glad to see that couple of VCs are interested in talking to Lords automotive!!
