So the consolidation in Indian OTA business has begun and what’s interesting is that post Travelguru acquisition, Travelocity will be an OTA as well as a search player (iXiGo powers Travelguru’s flight search). We believe there will be further consolidation in the industry, as ‘truckloads’ of VC money has gone in this business with not so much of significant returns.
Here is a look at comparative traffic of Indian OTAs (from Comscore*)
Top 5 sites:
- Yatra
- MMT
- Cleartrip
- iXiGo, and
- Ezeego1
So who is next? Arzoo? What’s your opinion?

I would say that TG came out thru acquisition because it has raised somewhat lower capital than others (only $10mn was confirmed, other amount was available not necessarily taken). CT and MMT cannot do anything because they ‘need’ a high valuation since they raised capital at high valuations.
CT raised money close to $80 million of valuation, so DFJ won’t let it go for anything less than $60mn, which NO ONE would pay for it. So, they are stuck.
Yatra is anyways screwed up because network18 has a stake in it, and hence n18 won’t let go of the company as their incentives are not really well aligned.
Not sure of your graph from comscore. If you take alexa, yatra is behind makemytrip except month of august.
you got the traffic nos. wrong ,MakeMyTrip is at makemytrip.com and not makemytrip.co.in ,in India .Do a quick check if you please
Are you comparing traffic of both makemytrip.co.in & makemytrip.com? They keep shifting the redirections.
I don’t unremarkably comment but I gotta say thanks for the post on this special one : D.
