Satyam Maytas Palindrome Syndrome

December 30, 2008

Now that Satyam-Maytas deal has entered the B-schools case study (corp governance), it’s interesting to look at the palindrome syndrome between the two companies:

Palindrome: S A T Y A M | M A Y T A S

The two are palindrome and maybe, its time to add a palindrome syndrome while evaluating M&A deals!

Another interesting palindrome:

I N B O X | X O B N I

Interestingly, MS offered $20mnto Xobni!

Is there a correlation you want to derive from these two cases (that palindromes always get a good deal? :) ).

Maytas was infact named and everyone knew it was related (started by relatives) of Satyam

    It was no coincidence.

Ramalinga Raju’s Family owns a major share in Maytas. Maytas was the step of Satyam’s owners to move into diversification ala realty. It was born as such.

A palindrome is a word, phrase, number or other sequence of units that can be read the same way in either direction (the adjustment of punctuation and spaces between words is generally permitted). Composing literature in palindromes is an example of constrained writing. The word “palindrome” was coined from Greek roots palin (?????; “back”) and dromos (??ó???; “way, direction”) by English writer Ben Jonson in the 1600s. The actual Greek phrase to describe the phenomenon is karkinikê epigrafê (????????? ????????; crab inscription), or simply karkiniêoi (??????????; crabs), alluding to the backward movement of crabs, like an inscription which can be read backwards.

example: MADAM is an palindrome. Satyam is not.

Maytas was the originally called satyam (Rama linga raju’s fathers name) before the Computer services was started . Post IT services becoming a hit . It was renamed maytas and separated. Ramalinga raju’s son Teja raju (MBA grad from ICFAI Hyd ‘07 batch) runs maytas
