Indian IT Industry: Bangalore Engineers are the Costliest in the Country

Surely a bad news for startups (not that they aren’t aware of the reality!) – Bangalore engineers,  working in product development companies collect the highest paycheck compared to their counterparts from other cities (Pune/NCR etc).

Management consulting firm, Zinnov shared it’s annual study on “Compensation and Benefits” and it seems Pune witnessed the highest salary hike (20%), while the average salary increase stands at just 14%.

I do agree that things have gone a little wary in the last few years and given the IT layoffs @TCS/IBM, salary figures might get back on track.

At the same time, if US is heading towards recession, more product cos. will run to India and “bid” for the best talent (which in my humble opinion is very very limited!).

I know for sure that the worst hit from salary shootup is the Indian Startup community – finding and retaining talent is really tough, especially when they are competing with global brand$.

What’s your opinion?

Tell me about it! They all want to work for exciting start up companies, want challenging work environment, claim to to be tired of corporate rigmarole, yet want that Honda City/Civic car and a fancy pay packet :)

This is very true. Most of the engineering college students follow “rote learning” so as to get top paying job. They dont learn and code by passion.

Indian Scenario: Become S/w engg, Get high pay job, marry smart good looking girl, get loan of 30lk and procure land, and blah balh all becuase to get respect from the ppl[who too follow the same]. So all these ppl are in the loop following same parameter

Every body following same parameter. I think indian aspiring entrepreneurs will change that.

They just jump the company to get better pay, not for better cutting ede technology work.

This will change but not suddenly… LATELY. :)

yes, you are true but all the people don’t move in that parameter

It actually depends on the way you look at it.

There are thousands of really really smart folks coming out of colleges every year and there are atleast hundreds of them who don’t have enough marks to make it to infosys/tcs.

So if you are a zensar trying to recruit a 1000 people, life is hard. If you are a startup, you just need 20, and the talent pool is really quite huge.
