Shine.com claims 2 million user base

Shine.com, HT’s job portal claims to have reached the milestone of 2 million users (within 10 months of launch) – with 82% of registered candidates  having more than 2 years of experience (and over 10% of regd. base is comprised of candidates from Grade A schools) – more

Shine’s traffic, on the other hand seems to decline (they invested heavily on advertisement) – so sustenance seems to be a big challenge.

Moreover, the most important thing about job portals is surely not about the number of registered users – there is no point in building another naukri/timesjobs – after all, there is a big room left in ‘Career’ space – while most of the job sites are still talking about ‘jobs’.

What’s your opinion?

Whatever jobs sites do, they all finally turned into the herding lots and lots of sheep for the sacrificial ‘jobs’. I’m not sure of myself on how one can have a ‘career’-centric solution but someone has to come up with something innovative. These sites should stop their BS and just say the truth ‘we’re job lists sites’.

You are right. I truly understand the problem that you are talking about.

JobsByRef.com is an attempt to change this space. Have taken pains to make sure that companies can find the right candidate fast, without going through the deluge of resumes that they end up getting from current job sites, which in turn is a problem for the person looking for a job as it gets harder for them to be seen by employers. This results in candidates trying to optimize their resumes to come on top of these search engines and pushing the genuine candidates way below in the search result where no one can see them. Because of this no one is happy.

There is a lot more we are doing to the whole process of recruitment. You can use the strength of your connections, to stand out from the crowd. The connections, related to your employment and education, you make on JobsByRef.com have a trust value attached to them, which helps you in getting a job, find the right candidate for your team and employer.

So JobsByRef.com is not just a job site you use to get a job for yourselves, unfortunately majority of the job sites fall into this category.

Check out http://www.jobsbyref.com. Hopefully you will not be disappointed.

        Thanks.

linkedin is already decently pitched in for ‘careers’ kind of portal… these job portals are nothing but huge spammers. they sell our emails to third parties…hopeless.

    3. Ravi says:

Number of registered users and resumes don’t matter. They’ve been spending loads of money to get that.

What counts is how many people come back to their site and continue the job search process – thats the only indicator of their performance.

According to Google Ad Planer, they get 3.5 million PVs/month. That translates to 1.75 PV/registered user every month which shows that they bought the registrations but people are not sticking to the site

    4. Rohit says:

Agree with Neha there. Moreover HT Media is a just a bunch of losers like most Indian media companies trying to find their way on the Internet.

I think Linkedin is probably the only trusted professional forum where good career focussed openings can be found. Havent found either Shine or Naukri of much help!

Some people say I am perfectionist and some say that I am dreaming too big but in any case, I feel I am not yet satisfied by any of the services. It has to be damn simple

      1) I am in need of job, I put in the details and make my job requirement flag active
      2) System should find me a job (Even I am ok to pay once I get job so easily)
      3) I switch off the job requirement portal.

      In order to achieve this
      1) Job portal need to be commanding, anyone not fitting into or with manipulative moves needs to be thrown out … (both companies and people)

I know its difficult to achieve but I believe this is what one should AIM at, not just creating so many job portals confusing people where to apply for the same job.

Aji, What you are saying makes sense from user interface perspective and is a pretty interesting idea.

But I feel the point others are trying to make is why sites like naukri.com and shine.com don’t work and why Linkedin is better…it links to Aji’s point no. ‘System should find me a job (Even I am ok to pay once I get job so easily)’ but question is how, unless system is some Job God?

I feel what Linkedin has done is, it has brought together people who are looking for a job, people who are hiring and also people who are happy with their jobs but are just hanging around on Linkedin. This creates a solid network of professionals talking about career in public and jobs in private.
Naukri and Shine just have people who want a job, where are others?

Aji, your comment makes sense from the user interface point view and is a pretty interesting comment.

What other people are trying argue is why sites like Naukri and shine don’t work and why Linkedin is better.

I feel what Linkedin has done is, it has brought together people who are looking for job, people who are hiring and also people who are happy with their jobs and are just hanging around on Linkedin but are willing to give an advice or two. It creates a solid network of professionals who talk career in public and jobs in private.

At naukri and shine, we have people who are looking for jobs, some hiring agents but where are others?

      @Mayur

Sorry, looks like I just jumped in too fast, I clicked on Ashish’s gmail profile (After some really long time) and arrived on this post, read too fast I guess :)

LinkedIn is a community, Shine and Naurki is a service …. Its like market place Vs shop … different and difficult to compare. LinkedIn is good, some people hand out and some people are just making their network stronger and stronger …

Still I am not sure, how it is benefiting me:
      1) by answering others queries (I do answer at WMW and other forums)

The point is the lack of integration between various services. Still I love linkedIn as I keep getting testimonials for my website.

    10. Mayur says:

Well, it is difficult to compare as per your definition of community and service providers but they can be easily put into one bucket of the avenues for job search and with Linkedin doing a good job and other services not doing so, people have started spending more time on communities and forums.
So, if Shine or naukri is not seeing Linkedin as a competitor, god save them

Coming to your benefits, I went to your website and had a look around. One more person knows about your website now. I may share with my friends. U must be aware of the thing called word-of-mouth.

      So keep answering queries! :)

    11. Avnish says:

Well, I am not sure why do shine.com claim this but to be frank, Till now I have not received single call or mail from shine for job.

Naukri is 100 % better as well, Linkedin.

Its funny to see shine.com claiming such figures.
