MouthShut launches Mobile Reviews..Few Questions?

Mouthshut has launched mobile reviews that enables MS readers to submit reviews via sms.

One needs to register their mobile number and once done, you can start posting reviews via sms by sending your review to 56767 (costs Rs. 3/sms)(via afaqs)

The concept is good and it’s always great to capture user’s reviews/opinions on-the-go, in the most accessible device (i.e. mobile).

MS added blogging (influenced by the blogging world) and now microblogging (influenced by twitter world)- and that raises a very fundamental question about MouthShut – Is it trying to be ‘everything opinionated‘ for users or rather , a niche review site?

They have been in the business for 8 years – so it’s high time for them to reach ‘there’!

Do you use MouthShut? Rely on them for reviews?

    1. I wonder if they wanting to be the Rotten Tomatoes would be a good approach for them, instead of dabbling in everything. They would need a more niche positioning with Bollywood in that case, though.

Mouthshut.com latest mobile initiative is cool. so i feel that its great they r moving into everything to do with peoples opinions. the fact that they survived 8 crucial years in india is a benchmark in itself. hats off to mouthshut team and mouthshut members.

I understand people in India do refer to reviews before they buy something, but how many of them really refer to something like mouthshut.com. I guess its the friends and relative’s review that matter more than of something like mouthshut.com where the reviews are mainly by strangers…….

    4. MuzikJockey says:

I generally search for details about the product before I buy it from market/net. If mouthshut comes up in the search results I do click it and read the reviews.
But the only reviews I find relevant are the ones that are long and descriptive.
For me mobile reviews might not be that useful.

    5. Kapil says:

I keep getting review requests and review contest details from Jasmin Ahuja of Mouthshut (I guess this is the name they use for sending mass mailers). With the inception of mobile reviews I am sure I’ll start getting requests for writing innovative punchlines or 5 word reviews of products :)

Mouthshut is one of the biggest fraud that has ever happened to the Indian dotcom scenario, they started with copying epinions, then they copied dooyoo and now over the last 1 year they have copied a lot of features from admanya, so sinha it answers your question why they are not able to get “there” in 8 years of business. The website claims all sorts of nonsense in terms of achievements and the reality is not a single VC is ready to touch them, dekhona is another clone which is a big flop. Mr Faruqui who considers himself next to Bill Gates (and puts up his dated photo in the website) so far is unable to garner any fund inspite of knocking any doors, the main problem is credibility, they just delete profiles and reviews whichever they feel inappropriate, if you write anything negative about Pakistan, they will delete it straightaway, sometimes makes one wonder whether it is a Pakistani website or not, product review is completely farce, only 10% of the reviews are genuine, rest 90% are fabricated in house under various names through an army of Rs 5000 a month staff. Every 2-3 weeks they will create some fiasco and natwanki among some members (fakes) and try to grab attention of some stupid users (I was among them 2 years back), if you see there are about 30 to 50 active people who are doing these so called diary writing, sms reviews etc. At the end of the day the consumer gets nothing but some garbage. It is a site worth avoiding. If you want a star writer badge and can spare 4 hours every day to write junk and get commented by some useless people then then join mouthshut. Actually they are lost and trying to be everything from epinions to youtube and failing everywhere.
