Indiatimes upgrades MeraMail – More AJAX, Integration with other Indiatimes Properties

IndiaTimes has launched an upgraded version of their mail product, MeraMail.

The updates include a collection of new features called Ziplets:

  • AJAXified interface – with contextual right click menus.
  • SSO, i.e. Integration with other Indiatimes properties like flight blooking, shopping etc.
  • Sensex graph and news feeds from ToI and ET.
  • Option to tag emails (+ color codes)
  • Better spam control (let’s see)

The new version has jagged edges and doesn’t render well in Firefox. Feature wise, it’s a catchup with Yahoo, Rediff and Gmail; but nevertheless is a good step towards integrating the rich properties and an attempt to make email as the starting point.

Indiatimes is facing stiff competition from Yahoo, Google and Rediff; and stands seventh in the overall brand popularity.

Of all the companies that are fighting for Indian eyeballs, Indiatimes is smartly placed because of their cross media presence – Times of India in the print, Times Now on the TV, and of course, the huge marketing budget that they have (haven’t you seen their recent TV commercials?).

Give the new version a try and share your comments.

Prashant – Indiatimes uses Zimbra, I believe: check this out

BTW – Is Indiatimes’ “Ziplets” concept “inspired” by Zinbra’s Zimlets?

Thats interesting … hmm let me see if the underlying technology is same than how come i used to get very few spam on zimbra inbox in my previous assignment . is it because the organization it self is selling the profile info to these email marketing cartels ??

any info on this practice ?

As far as I know, Indiatimes uses Zimbra for the mail product – but really not too sure how much of tech is being used.
Infact, right now the new UI doesn’t fetch the older emails..though I am impressed with the fight Indiatimes is putting up

I wanted to put my experience with indiatimes hosting group. They are worst in all the sense.

    1. Technical Team – Their product team he headed by Mohit Mathure who doesn’t know T of technology. Poor guy do not know even difference of linux/windows. Do not know what backup means. completly dumb guy

    2. Customer support – They do not have any one who understand meaning of “Customer support” their VP Mr. Sudharshan himself do not remember what he talked few hours back and there is no system with them which track your communication

After expericeing with mera mail i switched onto Bookmymail.com thier service is too good compared to mera mail and rediff pro i would suggest everyone to use bookmymail than going to other service providers they also give the service business email with google apps integrated.
